The recent launch of the MG Hector Tomahawk EV introduces a brand-new 7-seater EV option which the common mass-market segment is warming up to. Packed with features, style and over 500 km of claimed range, the Hector Tomahawk also gives the flexibility of seven seats. We spent time driving the Hector Tomahawk EV, and and here’s five things we loved about it.

Interior Feels Your Money's Worth

One of the key features of a premium SUV is the experience it gives you when you get in. The use of soft-touch leatherette and metallic finish on the physical toggles gives a true feel of where your money is spent. 

The overall cabin is minimalist despite being feature-rich. The quality of plastics and the fit and finish are par for the segment. 

Balanced Driving Experience

Being a modern-day EV, it is never lacking in power. The seamless and silent drivetrain with instant torque makes it a great city car. Power is sufficient for most scenarios, and even in Eco mode, the SUV provides decent power for city driving. 

The ride quality for a 7-seater SUV is commendable thanks to the balance of comfort and stability in the suspension. It takes bumpy, broken sections with ease while also maintaining confidence at highway speeds without feeling floaty, which is common for a car of this type. 

Features Not To Get Tired Of Anytime Soon

The Hector Tomahawk EV wears the MG badge, and expectedly, it comes loaded with features. Prime of which is the massive 15.6-inch screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The system includes MG's finger gesture system for the audio, blower and AC temperature as well.

Meanwhile, this also comes paired with a 10-speaker Infinity sound system. The driver also gets an 8.8-inch digital display with customisable modes. 

Other features include a panoramic roof, powered and ventilated front seats, vehicle-to-load (V2L) charging, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate and customisable ambient lighting. 

What is also unique to the Hector Tomahawk EV is vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging. In case of a power outage, the car is capable of powering a small-sized house

High On Price-To-Size Ratio

Given the large size, features and the large 69.2 kWh battery pack, it is priced aggressively and can be a top pick for people looking for value for money.

At the price of Rs 19.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, it does go directly against the likes of the Kia Carens Clavis EV and the Mahindra XEV 9S, which are smaller cars in dimensions.

Lavish Space

Speaking of large dimensions, it has helped open up a generous amount of space in the cabin. The 7-seater has lavish comfort for the first- and second-row occupants. However, the third-row seats are good for children or adults for short journeys. 

Boot space is also generous at 610 litres when the third row is folded down.

But when they are up, it still has 192 litres of space, which is usable for small cabin-size bags.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is one of the few 7-seater SUVs available in the market. Yet it provides a good proposition for those looking for an EV to comfortably fit their family in. With a claimed range of 517 km, it is also good for a weekend road trip. 

While rivals match the features and range numbers, the Hector Tomahawk has size in its favour.
