With its debut in the Indian automotive space, the much awaited Tata Curvv EV has turned heads and attracted a lot of interest. Dealer’s across the country have commenced accepting booking orders for the Curvv EV for an amount of Rs 21,000, ahead of deliveries starting soon. The Tata Curvv EV gets five main trim levels to choose from: Creative, Accomplished, Accomplished + S, Empowered, and Empowered + A. This article examines the features of the fourth trim, "Empowered +", which is the one below the top variant in the line-up, in more detail.
While all the variants of the Tata Curvv EV look nearly identical, the Empowered + variant’s cool highlight is that the connected LED DRLs get a welcome and goodbye animation, adding to its premiumness. The LED headlights and fog lamps are situated down below in the bumpers with bezel elements on the air curtains for cooling the batteries. Upon charging, the LED DRLs also work as charging indicators, by intimating the charging percentage.
Being a SUV-coupe, the most distinctive element of the Curvv EV is its sloping roofline design which makes it look way more attractive than any other regular compact SUV. The eye-catching silhouette is further accentuated by the large aero-designed 18-inch alloy wheels which give the Curvv EV a better stance than the 17-inch alloys found in the lower variants. The segment first flush-type door handles with illumination is another premium touch in the SUV-coupe’s styling.. Additionally, this variant introduces a frunk storage space under the bonnet.
The back of the Curvv EV also features the connected LED tail lights, which like the front, gets welcome and goodbye animation. A large chunk of piano black element adorns the bumpers with a silver finished skid-plate lower down below. Atop you get a neatly integrated dual roof mounted spoiler and a shark-fin antenna. The Empowered + variant is available in five exterior colour shades to choose from: Flame Red, Pure Grey, Pristine White, Empowered Oxide and Virtual Sunrise.
The main interior talking point in the Empowered + variant is the interior colour theme. This variant gets a white and black coloured interior colour which makes it look more premium and adds to the sense of space inside the cabin. While the lower spec variants get a different coloured theme. You can check out all the variant wise interior colour options here. Furthermore it gets leatherette interiors and a steering wheel with an illuminated logo. And while this theme looks great and adds a sense of space to the cabin, keeping it grime-free over the time will prove to be tough.
Another addition in this trim level is the interior ambient lighting which makes the interiors a bit more upmarket. Convenience is further enhanced with auto-dimming IRVMs, cooled and illuminated glove-box, a large centre armrest with storage, a 2-stage rear seat recline, front and rear 45W type C port charging options and the rear seats 60:40 split functionality.
The interiors of the Empowered + variant are packed to the brim with feature niceties like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with blind spot monitoring and google maps relay when connected to Android Auto. This variant also comes with a premium 9-speaker JBL surround sound speakers.
Furthermore, it gets wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, power adjustable driver and passenger seat, front seat ventilation, automatic climate control system, rear AC vents, auto-folding ORVMS, keyless entry, and push-button start/stop.
Safety tech is also up to the latest standards with 6-airbags, ABS, EBD and electronic stability control as standard. This variant also gets a 360 degree surround view camera with front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and various driving modes with regenerative braking via paddle-shifters.
This variant also introduces the AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) to warn the pedestrians under low speeds, and vehicle to load (V2L) technology which lets the user share power with other EV’s and power other appliances.
The only feature miss in this variant when compared to the top-spec “Empowered +A” trim is the gesture controlled electric tailgate and ADAS tech like blind spot detection, lane-keep assist, emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The Empowered + variant of the Tata Curvv EV is offered only in the Long Range configuration with a 55 kWh battery pack. This battery pack powers the e-motor which churns out 167 PS and 215 Nm. The Curvv EV Long Range boasts a claimed range of up to 585 km. This battery pack supports DC fast charging, which can juice up the vehicle from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 40 minutes when using a 70kW charger.
The prices for the Curvv EV ranges between Rs 17.49 lakh and Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and the one-below-top spec Empowered + trim is priced at Rs Rs 21.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
It rivals other EVs in the market like the BYD Atto 3, Mahindra XUV400 EV, MG ZS EV, and will rival the upcoming MG Windsor EV and Hyundai Creta EV.
