Bajaj has filed a trademark for the name ‘Blade’. The trademark was filed in March 2022 and is awaiting approval. While there is no official word on what this product could be, we think that it could be a new electric scooter under the Chetak brand.
To jog your memory, the Bajaj Blade was introduced as a 125cc scooter during the 2006 Auto Expo, so this upcoming scooter could, in all likelihood, be its modern interpretation.
The Bajaj Chetak appeals to a more mature audience, while the Blade could be targeted at younger riders. Bajaj has been spotted testing the Husqvarna Vektorr in India, and the Blade could be based on this and borrow some of its components. The design, however, could be based loosely on the Blade 125cc scooter, with a twin headlight setup and bulky panels to woo the young crowd.
Unlike the Chetak, which has minimal features, the Blade could be more tech-loaded, and flaunt a sophisticated display with smartphone connectivity and perhaps even navigation to keep it at par with competitors like the Ather 450X, Ola S1 Pro and the upcoming Simple One.

Bajaj might even use a more powerful motor and pair it with a bigger battery to make the Blade more appealing to the buyers who crave performance. However, don’t expect it to be affordable by any means. With the Chetak now retailing for Rs 1,53,298 (on-road Delhi, including FAME-II subsidy), the Blade will likely demand a premium over the Chetak.
Considering that the trademark is yet to be approved, it is unlikely that the Bajaj Blade will debut anytime soon. We expect it to hit the Indian streets in late 2023, or maybe even 2024. By then, we’ll hopefully have more EVs enter the Indian market including the Suzuki Burgman Electric.
