BMW Motorrad is all set to launch its most affordable faired bike ever in the country on July 15. Here’s what we’d like to see from the G 310 RR

BMW Motorrad recently sent out an invite teasing its upcoming motorcycle, likely to be called the BMW G 310 RR. The faired bike, based on the TVS Apache RR 310, is all set to be launched on July 15, 2022. The teaser reveals the motorcycle’s tail light, which is exactly the same as the RR 310's. Here’s what we think the German bike should get:

Slight aesthetic updates:

The TVS Apache RR 310 is a looker, there’s no denying that. But If BMW Motorrad were to sell a bike based on the TVS, then it will have to have a few distinguishing elements that go beyond merely colour schemes. Expect the BMW G 310 RR to borrow inspiration from BMW Motorrad’s litre-class flagship, the S 1000 RR, probably giving it a similar fascia. Consequently, the fairing design is likely to be tweaked as well. The teaser also shows the bike draped in M-spec livery, which should dial up its aesthetics quotient.

Same stuff, different package:

BMW G 310 RR Engine

The BMW G 310 RR will likely have the same features and specs as the TVS Apache RR 310. This means it will also come with a proper TFT screen with smartphone connectivity; Urban, Rain, Sport and Track mode with different power and torque output and deliveries; and slipper clutch, among others. The powertrain is also likely to make the same output figures: 34PS and 27.3Nm in Sport and Track mode, and 25.8PS and 25Nm in Urban and Rain mode. Underpinnings including the inverted cartridge fork, rear monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends will also be shared with the faired bike from Hosur.

Through its Built To Order strategy, TVS offers two distinct kits: Dynamic and Race to enhance the bike’s feature list. The former includes a fully adjustable KYB front fork and rear monoshock, anda brass coated drive chain whereas the latter offers lower set handlebar and revised footpegs for a more aggressive stance and greater cornering clearance. We’d love to see BMW Motorrad offer these two packages as standard on the G 310 RR as that will give the German motorcycle an edge over its primary rival, the updated KTM RC 390.

This will not be something new for BMW Motorrad as it had already updated its F 850 GS range with all the accessories (previously optional) as standard for 2022, and has managed to reduce the pricing by as much as Rs 2.15 lakh.

BMW G 310 RR: What We’d Like To See showcase

The BMW G 310 RR is more of a rebadged Apache RR 310 rather than an all-new motorcycle, just like how Toyota sells the Glanza that's is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Hence, the G 310 RR may not be all that expensive. Currently, the BMW G 310 R as well as the TVS Apache RR 310 retail at Rs 2,65,000, whereas the BMW G 310 GS is priced at Rs 3,05,000 (both ex-showroom India). Expect the BMW G 310 RR to slot right between the G 310 R and the G 310 GS, presumably at a Rs 20,000 premium over the German naked. At Rs 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom), it will be around Rs 29,000 less expensive than the KTM RC 390. And even at this price point, it will still be more affordable than the dated Kawasaki Ninja 300.
