Mahindra Thar 5-door Spotted Once Again, Here Are The Changes It Gets Over The 3-door Thar

• Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted on test once again. 
• Gets LED projector headlights, a redesigned grille and different LED tail lamps.

It’s known news that Mahindra is working on the larger Thar 5-door SUV, which has been spotted on test once again in a close-to-production avatar. The larger off-roader will make its debut sometime in 2024 and will be sold alongside the smaller 3-door version. And to ensure there are differences between both the cars, the Thar 5-door gets a couple of differentiating factors. 

Styling Differences

The Thar 5-door will get minor styling differences over the smaller 3-door model. From the spy shots, we can discern that it will feature new LED projector headlights and a redesigned grille with larger slats. Obviously, the addition of extra doors has made its length longer while the rear-end will feature tweaked tail lamps, likely to be all-LED units.

Also, the Thar 5-door will get the option of a fixed hard-top as well. It remains to be seen what other body styles will be offered with the SUV. 

Interior Changes And Features 

Thanks to the presence of the aforementioned hardtop, one of the most important feature additions in the Thar will be a single-pane sunroof. Also, it will get a larger touchscreen infotainment system, probably the 8-inch unit from the Scorpio N. We also suspect additional features such as dual-zone climate control and wireless phone charger to be on offer. 

Rest of the features such as cruise control, keyless entry, power windows, a multi-info display and steering-mounted audio controls should be carried forward. As for safety, it should get up to six airbags, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. 

Engine Options

The Thar 5-door should get the existing 130PS 2.2-litre diesel and the 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine options, albeit with a bit more power. It should be offered with both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive, the latter with a low-range transfer case. As for transmission options, you can expect the 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions to do the duty. 

Rivals And Price 

The Mahindra Thar 5-door is expected to be priced above the three-door model, which is priced from Rs 10.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
