The Mahindra Thar Roxx has been one of the carmaker’s bestsellers in recent years, and now to inject some exclusivity for the off-roader, Mahindra has launched the Star Edition with some cosmetic enhancements, and a mouth-watering price! If you were curious to know what changes have been made, here it is in 13 real-life images:
Up front, the Star Edition immediately looks more serious thanks to the gloss-black grille, which replaces the body-coloured unit seen on the standard Thar Roxx. It works particularly well with vibrant body colours and gives the SUV a more upmarket, urban feel.

The SUV still retains its iconic fascia, with ‘C-shaped’ DRLs, round projector headlamps and fender-mounted indicators. It also gets a chunky off-road ready bumper with a silver insert just like the standard Thar Roxx.

From the side, the Star Edition gets touches like a black finish for the 19-inch alloy wheels, which give it an exclusive touch. They add visual weight and suit the Roxx’s boxy proportions well. The tall stance, squared wheel arches and flat surfaces still give it that unmistakable Thar DNA, but the darker elements make it feel more lifestyle-oriented than rugged.

You also get to see a Star Edition badge on the C-pillar to add a subtle hint of exclusivity without being loud.

Do note that the Star Edition will also be available in an all-new Citrine Yellow shade (pictured here), besides other options such as Tango Red, Everest White and Stealth Black.
The rear remains familiar in design, with the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and square LED taillamps. There are no major styling changes here, but the dark accents and overall colour treatment help the Star Edition feel more cohesive when viewed from the back. It’s clean, simple and very much in line with the Thar Roxx’s tough design language.

Step inside and the biggest talking point is the all-black upholstery. The dashboard layout is identical to the regular Roxx, but the darker upholstery and trim pieces give it a more premium, cockpit-like feel, and will also be easier to keep clean compared to the white interior of the standard variant

It still retains the twin-screen setup with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display which continues to dominate the dashboard and keeps things feeling modern.
The front seats are finished in leatherette with suede-like inserts and come with ventilation, which is a welcome addition in this segment. They feel supportive and plush, making long drives more comfortable.

The rear seats offer decent space and flexibility, with 60:40 split functionality and recline. However, one thing worth pointing out is that with the all-black upholstery, the cabin can feel less airy compared to the white interior.

On the features front, the Thar Roxx Star Edition is well equipped. Highlights include a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected-car tech, ventilated front seats, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, cruise control and keyless entry.

That said, it’s important to note what it doesn’t get compared to the top-spec AX7L. The Star Edition misses out on ADAS, an electronic parking brake (EPB) and a power-adjustable driver seat, which helps explain the price gap between the two.
Features like a sliding armrest, automatic climate control and a 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system further add to the sense that this Thar is designed as much for daily use as it is for weekend getaways.

Safety-wise, the Star Edition comes with 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and all-wheel disc brakes. It sticks to the essentials without going overboard.

Mechanically, the Star Edition remains unchanged and it still gets powered by a choice of 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. In the Star Edition, the petrol can be had only with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the diesel gets a manual option as well. Here are the detailed specifications:
|

2.2-litre diesel |
|

A few important things to note:
No petrol manual option is offered on the Star Edition
No 4x4 drivetrain is available — it is rear-wheel drive only
The focus here is clearly on on-road comfort and usability rather than hardcore off-roading
The Mahindra Thar Roxx Star Edition is positioned toward the premium end of the lineup, priced above the standard trims but below the fully loaded AX7L. Here is the detailed pricelist:
|

Petrol AT |
Diesel MT |
Diesel AT |

Rs 17.85 lakh |

It primarily rivals the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Jimny, though it can also be considered as an alternative to SUVs like Mahindra Scorpio N, Tata Harrier and MG Hector.
The Thar Roxx Star Edition is for buyers who want the Thar’s unmistakable presence, but with a darker, more premium twist. It’s not the most feature-loaded Roxx, but it strikes a sweet spot for those who value style, comfort and everyday usability. Just be sure you’re okay with missing out on ADAS, a powered driver seat and 4x4 before signing on the dotted line.
