One of the most talked-about cars and the Indian Car of the Year 2025, the Mahindra Thar Roxx, was initially launched with a sole Ivory White interior theme. However, this didn’t sit well with many buyers due to the hassle of maintaining its stain-prone finish. Anything in white, and you know how easily it attracts stains. Well, Mahindra was quick to respond, bringing a darker Mocha Brown theme for the off-roader. Now, that certainly serves the purpose intended, but is that all? Which of the two actually looks better?
While personal preference plays a big role, if you’re still undecided, here’s a look at the pros and cons of both options to help you choose.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx gets the Ivory White cabin theme as standard across all its variants. In fact, this theme has become somewhat of a signature in the Mahindra lineup, also seen in models like the XUV700. On the other hand, the Mocha Brown interior is exclusively available on the 4x4s, a logical move since its intended purpose is for off-road adventures where dirt and grime are unavoidable.
As for this author, the Ivory White theme looks more plush and premium. The white-finished ceiling in fact adds to this by amplifying the sense of space inside the cabin. The black accents across major portions of the dashboard provide a nice contrast.
The Mocha Brown theme, on the other hand, also features black accents in the upholstery, with its chocolatey hue offering a darker yet stylish look. What’s kept common between both themes is the light-coloured ceiling above.
The Ivory White? Well, you won’t like it taking off the roads for sure. The big issue - stains and dirt marks. It’s highly prone to dust, which quickly dulls the white colour, giving it a dirty, yellowish tint over time.
As for the Mocha Brown, while it serves its purpose, the finish brings a somewhat cheap feel in some areas. Unlike the soft-touch texture of Ivory White, the Mocha Brown has a shiny, plasticky appearance in portions, which cuts off from the premium feel expected at least at this price point. Given that this interior option is only available on higher-end variants (starting from MX5 onwards), a better finish would have been appreciated.
Also, the roof could have been blacked out to stay consistent with the darker theme instead of retaining a lighter shade. The combination of beige, brown, and black feels somewhat mismatched, making the interior look a bit disjointed.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx has its prices ranging from Rs 12.99 lakh to Rs 23.09 lakh (ex-showroom). While with the darker theme, the Thar Roxx sits between Rs 19.09 lakh to Rs 23.09 lakh (ex-showroom). If you want to know the detailed break-up, head out to this story.
The Thar Roxx faces competition from the Force Gurkha 5-door and its more affordable alternative like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
Whether you go for the Ivory White or the Mocha Brown, the Mahindra Thar Roxx stays more flavoured towards the cause of the off-road thrill it is meant for. We feel Mahindra could have rendered the darker theme in a better way. Perhaps because it was introduced as a quick response rather than a well-thought-out design from the start, it doesn’t feel as wholesome as the Ivory White. That being said, it’s up to your individual preferences as to which option to go for but off-road enthusiasts can rejoice, as a cabin theme is probably the last thing they’d stress over when chasing adventure behind the wheel.
