The KTM 690 Rally has been spotted testing in Europe, giving us a clear hint at how the Austrian brand plans to shape its future in the hardcore enduro and adventure space. After navigating a turbulent phase, KTM is now refocusing its lineup, and this upcoming model reflects a sharper, more purpose-driven approach.
The 690 Rally is based on the KTM 690 Enduro R, but with a stronger emphasis on rally-style performance. Its design borrows heavily from KTM’s Dakar machines, especially the tall windscreen and minimalistic bodywork. Unlike the larger adventure tourers like the 890 Adventure R, this one appears leaner, lighter, and more off-road focused.
The tall rally-style windscreen isn’t just for show either, it should offer decent wind protection while maintaining that aggressive rally look. This positions the 690 Rally as a more serious off-roader, rather than a comfortable mile-muncher.

Under the skin, the bike continues to use the familiar LC4 693cc single-cylinder engine. In the 690 Enduro R, this motor produces 79PS and 73Nm, making it the most powerful single-cylinder engine currently in production. Expect similar performance here, paired with a lightweight chassis.
One of the biggest upgrades is the fuel tank. The test mule suggests a larger, possibly dual-chamber unit, likely increasing capacity from 13 litres to around 18 litres. This should significantly boost its touring range, something rally riders will appreciate.

Here’s the reality check, it's highly unlikely that the 690 Enduro R, let alone the 690 Rally, will make it to India. KTM’s current strategy here revolves around smaller capacity bikes and twin-cylinder ADVs like the 390 Adventure and the upcoming 490 range.
That said, there’s a small glimmer of hope. With Ducati bringing in the Hypermotard 698 Mono, the premium single-cylinder space is slowly opening up. If KTM (read Bajaj) decides to test the waters, the 690 Rally could carve out a unique niche for hardcore enthusiasts.
For now, the bike is still in its testing phase, but given how production-ready it looks, a global debut by the end of the year seems likely.
