Tokyo Motor Show is the biggest event for Japanese bike makers to showcase their brand-new mean machines. We already have an idea of what Kawasaki and Suzuki will be showcasing, now though, it’s time to see what Yamaha has been up to behind closed doors. Yamaha is set to bring a wide range of products. When we say a range of products, we mean an electric bicycle, a couple of e-scooters, a trials motorcycle and more! And oh, did we mention it’ll also bring a drone?
E01:
Yamaha says that the E01’s performance will be similar to that of conventional 125cc scooters. What’s more interesting is that we could see this maxi-scooter hitting the production line soon. Even the design seems to be production-ready. The final version might have some cosmetic changes compared to the concept, but the exact details remain to be seen. However, we are pretty sure that the production version will come with road-spec tyres instead of slicks, which are seen on the concept version. Being an electric scooter, it’s likely to come with ABS, Bluetooth connectivity, a digital instrument cluster and swappable battery.
E02:
Apart from unveiling the maxi-scooter, Yamaha will also showcase a smaller, entry-level electric scooter conveniently called the E02. Yamaha hasn’t revealed the spec sheet yet but it has disclosed that its power figures will be equivalent to a 50cc petrol-powered scooter. We expect the E02 to carry forward some features such as Bluetooth connectivity, LED Lights and swappable batteries from the EC-05, which is already on sale in Taiwan.
YPJ-XC:
While the Tokyo Motor Show is known for manufacturers showcasing insane motorcycles, Yamaha’s booth will have an all-electric off-roading bicycle. Major e-bike makers such as Trek and Scott already have their versions of an electric cycle and even Harley-Davidson is planning to enter this space.
Is there anything else?
Yes! The Japanese bike maker will also showcase an all-electric trials motorcycle. For people who don’t know what trials motorcycles are, here’s a quick gist: it’s a motorcycle with no seat, which is made to jump and conquer any obstacles. The only thing that Yamaha has announced about the trials bike is that it gets a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque frame and a high-output electric motor that has a “strong low-speed torque.” And yes, there will be a drone as well, which the company says will be used for agriculture purposes.
Besides, Yamaha will also unveil two all-new models, the details of which are not known. So, it’s pretty unclear at the moment what Yamaha will pull out of its hat at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. Stay tuned to ZigWheels as we bring you all the updates from the much-anticipated Tokyo Motor Show.
