One of the 500 most opulent, tech-laden, power packed Ducatis finds an Indian owner

Ducati 1299 Superleggera

Ducati’s first 1299 Superleggera in India has been bought by motorcycle enthusiast Vikram Oberoi of The Oberoi Group. Vikram is a passionate motorcyclist who regularly carves corners at the Buddh International Circuit. Apart from his latest extravagant purchase, he already owns a Ducati 1299 Panigale S, the iconic Ducati 916 and the Ducati 1098. Also read: Rs 1.12 crore for a motorcycle. Are you nuts?

Why extravagant? The mouth-watering motorcycle costs an eye-watering Rs 1,12,20,000, ex-showroom Delhi. Yeah, take your time to count the place values! At this point you might be wondering why a motorcycle would cost so much. It’s because Ducati has focussed on making the bike as light and as powerful as possible. As a result, the Ducati 1299 Superleggera makes an insane 215PS of power at 11000rpm and 146.5Nm of torque at 9000rpm from its 1285cc Superquadro L-twin Desmodromic liquid-cooled engine, nestled inside a monocoque carbon fibre frame! Ducati has slathered the highest grade of cutting-edge carbon fibre all over the bike. The wheels, the frame, the sub-frame, the single-sided swingarm- they’re all made of carbon fibre. Ducati is so dedicated towards weight saving that the brand used titanium screws to save additional weight. All these components are tested with aerospace-grade techniques for technical flawlessness. As a result, while the bike costs a fortune, it also weighs just about 156kg, dry! That’s almost as much as your average 150cc bike but imagine packing more than 14 times the power! Commenting on his purchase, Vikram Oberoi said, “Ducati makes exceptional motorcycles and it’s a privilege for me to be one of Ducati’s customers in India. There is no better motorcycle manufacturer when it comes to performance bikes or bikes ridden on a racetrack.”

Ravi Avalur, MD, Ducati India Pvt. Ltd. said: “The 1299 Superleggera is one of the most exclusive motorcycles in the world, with only 500 units produced. Redefining the definition of the term “superbike”, it offers unmatched technology in a limited edition targeting the true connoisseur. We are very proud to deliver the only 1299 Superleggera in India to Vikram.”

The bike features a full-fledged electronics package that includes Ducati Traction Control Evo (DTC EVO) and Ducati Slide Control (DSC). It is also the first ever Ducati Superbike to be equipped with Ducati Power Launch (DPL) and also features the Engine Brake Control (EBC) seen on previous versions.

Reining this superbike is a newly calibrated Bosch Cornering ABS system that ensures exceptional braking performance. The 1299 Superleggera is delivered with a track kit that includes Ducati performance components such as a complete titanium Akrapovic racing exhaust (Negates 4 kilos and adds 5PS of power), racing screen, license plate holder removal kit and mirror replacement plugs among other accessories.

The production run of this exclusive motorcycle is limited to 500 units and guess what, all of them are sold out. Also, if you must know, the claimed fuel efficiency of the bike stands at approximately 18.8km to the litre. Don’t expect that kind of mileage while setting the track on fire, though.
