With the launch of Nexon, Tata eyes higher stake in the SUV market

Tata Nexon

The Tata Nexon is all set to launch tomorrow as bookings for the same started earlier this month on September 11. The Nexon will mark Tata’s entry in the sub 4-metre compact SUV segment and is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. In case you know nothing about the baby SUV, here’s a quick lowdown.

Tata Nexon

What does it look like?

The Nexon resembles the concept that was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo. The front of the car looks muscular with a big bumper and tall stance. The white ceramic line running across the sides with the big 16-inch alloy wheels adds to the muscular look of the car. The Nexon is Tata’s fourth product to feature the company’s IMPACT design philosophy.

What about the engines?

A 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel engine will find their way in the Nexon’s engine bay. The petrol engine produces 110PS/170Nm while the diesel motor churns out 110PS/260Nm. Both engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox at launch. Automatic variants featuring an automated manual transmission (AMT) may follow soon. Some reports suggest that the Nexon will get the AMT before the end of the current financial year. The Nexon will also get the segment-first multi driving modes - City, Eco, and Sport.
