Diwali is a festival of lights and these cars launched in 2023 embrace the festive mood rather well with their unique features

Isn’t it beautiful when we inch closer to Diwali? Your daily commute starts to look and feel a lot better, a lot brighter. The streets are lit up with beautiful lights, houses and balconies decorated with LEDs and lamps, and everyone is celebrating the festival of lights. So on the occasion of this festival of lights, we take a look at new car launches this year that embrace the spirit of Diwali through their respective unique lighting setup and features.

Kia Seltos

The stalwart of the compact SUV segment, the Kia Seltos, received a mid-life update this year. The update was rather comprehensive and brought new features to the Seltos’ package. But what truly stands out in the Seltos’ design is its lighting setup. You get LED DRLs within the LED headlights and even the dynamic function indicators are LEDs .

The rear boasts a connected LED taillight setup, and it looks really chic, especially at night (take our word for it!). But if you want Diwali feels on the inside, the Seltos has got you covered there as well, thanks to neatly integrated ambient lighting in the speakers, which Kia calls ‘Sound Mood Lighting.’ It can even switch colours and its intensity, depending on the music you play. So you also get a concert-like experience in the comfort of your vehicle! The speakers don’t disappoint as well.

The Harrier and Safari are the two latest launches from Tata. Both SUVs have received a similar treatment in terms of styling changes and cabin updates. And in doing so, their lighting setups are among the best in their respective segments.

Both get a connected LED DRL setup at the front which spans the width of the bonnet, defining the width of the massive SUVs. They also feature the dynamic turn indicator function, while the rear also boasts a connected LED taillight setup. The exterior lighting also has a welcome and goodbye function that really makes not just for a great first impression but also the last one. And to keep the party going on inside, both feature ambient lighting which gets a slew of hues to choose from.

Hyundai Verna

The Hyundai Verna received a generational update this year and changed our perspective of the compact sedan forever. The changes were so comprehensive that one could easily mistake it for something more premium. The front, which is still a bit polarising, features a connected LED DRL setup that runs across the bonnet line. It doesn’t project any lighting show, but is like no other vehicle in its segment. Even the rear features a connected LED taillight setup and the beauty of its lighting elements really come alive at night.

You also get ambient lighting on the inside with endless colour options to choose from.

Tata Nexon EV

The first ever proper update for the Nexon EV brought around significant revisions to the electric SUV. Just like the bigger ICE-powered Harrer and Safari siblings, the Nexon EV boasts a full-width LED DRL light bar at the front with dynamic turn indication. The rear, too, sports a connected LED taillight setup. The implementation of these lighting elements is so well executed that it makes the Nexon EV look even more premium than cars sitting a segment or two higher.

In fact, its setup allows for a rather cool welcome and goodbye animation, which is something that was previously seen on higher-end vehicles like an Audi. Moreover, it also uses the light bar up front to denote the charge status while it’s plugged in.

Audi Q8 e-tron

Audi’s flagship electric SUV, the Q8 e-tron, takes the lighting game to a whole new level. The electric SUV boasts LED Matrix headlights, which can project really cool graphics on the wall while starting and shutting down the car. And it isn’t limited to a single graphic, as there are multiple options you can choose from which change the projection based on your liking. Don’t believe us? Watch it work its magic in this reel below:

Mercedes EQE

Mercedes’ EQE SUV uses LED headlights which hold 1.3 million pixels per headlight. This allows for various welcome and goodbye animations, while the real connected LED taillight gives out a 3D effect.

It's a known fact that Mercedes pours a lot of attention into its cabins, and the EQE is no different in this sense. Neatly integrated ambient lighting wraps around the entire cabin and a night drive in the EQE feels like a completely unique experience in itself. Of course, you get multiple colour options to choose from here as well. Even better, the AC vents change colour when you’re changing the temperature, adding to the X factor.

Volvo C40 Recharge

The Volvo C40 Recharge’s sleek and handsome looks apart, it gets a rather cool lighting setup. The front sports the signature Thor’s hammer LED DRLs, which gets 84 pixels in each unit. While the LED taillights at the rear display a waterfall-like animation when you lock or unlock the car. It is something you won’t mind staring at, literally.

And on the inside, the C40 Recharge’s ambient lighting is located behind a translucent panel. It emits out a mild ambient tone and mimics the Swiss Alps, which looks really really cool.

BMW i7

While the BMW i7 doesn’t get a fancy connected headlight or taillight setup, it does get an illuminated grille surround that stands out from the rest. And the cabin’s ambient lighting setup has to be up there with the best, especially with the multifunctional interactive bar that spans the width of the dashboard. In fact, it even gets dynamic lighting on the panoramic sunroof, so you’re basically wrapped around in ambient lighting inside the cabin of the BMW i7.
