    Aprilia brought a quirky scooter at this year’s expo, which possibly, was the highlight of the event. What you are looking at is the SXR160 -- a 160cc maxi scooter made specifically for India. But Aprilia will also launch a smaller 125cc variant of this, which is likely to be called the SXR125. There’s no official timeline as yet, but we expect the SXR125 to be launched after the SXR160, which will go on sale by the third quarter of this year. Expect the SXR125 to be around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 more expensive than the SR125.

    The Aprilia SXR125 will look similar to its bigger cousin, the SXR160. It will get a long seat and a stretched-out floorboard. Feature-wise, it will get all the goodies as the SXR160. So, it will come with a USB port, an underseat light, LED DRLs, and a fully digital instrument console.

    Under the new body will be a familiar set of underpinnings. It is likely to get the same frame, suspension, and braking hardware as the SR125. The BS6-compliant 125cc motor makes around 10PS and 10.5Nm of torque. However, we can expect Aprilia to slightly tune this motor.

    Up until now, the Burgman Street was the only maxi scooter in India in the 125cc segment. And looking at how popular the Burgman has gotten, Aprilia thought of dipping its toes in this segment. One of the reasons why Aprilia is planning to bring a maxi scooter is to expand its range, which until now consists of just sporty, performance-oriented scooters. Moreover, these scooters may also help the brand boost its sales, which are not that great at the moment.
