Heraclitus once said, “Change Is The Only Constant”. That old adage holds true for everything around, motorcycles included. To keep up with the competition, manufacturers arrange and rearrange their offerings, and the latest one to have got under similar chop-and-change is the 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000.
Right off the bat, you see how strikingly different its front fascia is. The bike gets a vertically stacked LED headlight flanked by LED turn indicators (think of the Yamaha MT-09?).
Suzuki has also provided the GSX-S1000 with textured radiator shrouds and winglets inspired by its MotoGP race bikes. The side panels get an urban camouflage finish. However, it seems that the new offering still continues to feature an LCD digital display instead of a modern TFT unit.
The bike now utilises a BS6-compliant 999cc motor generating 152PS and 106Nm, 2PS more but 2Nm less than the previous model. The six-speed gearbox has been carried forward, but it now features a bi-directional quickshifter and a slipper clutch.
Suzuki has been more than generous with the electronics on the bike. It features three ride modes -- A, B, and C -- with A being the sportiest.
It also has five-level traction control and dual-channel ABS. However, these parameters aren’t lean-sensitive as Suzuki has skipped IMU.
The 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is sprung on a fully adjustable USD front fork and a (preload and rebound-adjustable) monoshock, both from KYB. Its stopping power comes from twin 310mm front discs with Brembo Monobloc callipers and a single rear disc. The bike rolls on 17-inch alloys shod with Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres.
The handlebar has been pushed 20mm towards the rider and widened by 23mm for better leverage when cornering or changing directions. The fuel tank now holds 19 litres of fuel, 2 litres more than before.
In the UK, the 2021 Suzuki GSX-S1000 will be available from June, starting at GBP 10,999 (approximately Rs 11.43 lakh). With the 2021 Hayabusa already on sale in India, we expect the new GSX-S1000 to make its India debut by October at around Rs 12 lakh.
