It’s the Diavel V4’s more relaxed, (relatively) laid back sibling

Ducati has launched the new XDiavel V4 in India, positioning it as the relatively more relaxed, laid-back sibling of the Ducati Diavel V4. While both share the same V4 Granturismo engine and ‘muscle’ bike DNA, the XDiavel continues to lean more towards the cruiser end of the spectrum, prioritising comfort, lower seat height, and long distance touring focus.

The biggest change (compared to the older-gen XDiavel) is the move to the 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine which makes 168.6PS and 126Nm. It replaces the old V-twin that was present in the Ducati XDiavel 1260 S. Ducati claims a sub-3 second 0-100kmph time – but the focus here is more on effortless acceleration than aggressive riding. It also features rear cylinder deactivation at low speeds, so that you don't burn your legs in our city traffic conditions.

Ducati XDiavel V4 Black Lava

Visually, the XDiavel V4 sticks to its long, low cruiser stance, setting it apart from the more upright and sporty Diavel. New metallic shades called Burning Red and Black Lava add a bit more depth to the design, with the red being unique to the XDiavel rather than Ducati’s usual bright red.

Comfort is where the Ducati XDiavel V4 really separates itself from the ‘regular’ Diavel. Compared to the Diavel V4, the seat height is 20mm lower at 770mm, and the handlebar is set further back towards the rider. The rear suspension travel has increased over the previous XDiavel – to better handle poor roads. Both rider and passenger seats are wider and thicker than before, and a proper grab handle is now standard. Ducati is clearly trying to make this a more usable two-up motorcycle.

Ducati XDiavel V4 Burning Red

Despite its size, Ducati claims improved handling thanks to a lighter overall weight of 229kg (wet weight, but no fuel) compared to the older XDiavel. Its also lighter than the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 (241kg kerb) while having twice the cylinders and displacement (almost). Also present are a fully adjustable 50mm upside-down fork and monoshock. Braking is handled by Brembo Stylema calipers at the front, backed by standard and cornering ABS.

Full-LED lighting, a large TFT display, and it has an extensive electronics suite. It gets multiple riding modes, power modes, traction control, wheelie control, launch control, cruise control, and a bi-directional quickshifter.

Ducati XDiavel

Touring accessories like panniers, windscreens, and comfort seats are available. As expected, more personalisation options also exist – and can push the price well beyond the base figure.

The Ducati XDiavel V4 is priced at Rs 30,88,700 in Burning Red, and Rs 31,19,700 in Black Lava. For reference, the Diavel V4 price ranges between Rs 29,07,600 to Rs 29,38,600 (all prices ex-showroom). It’s a niche machine aimed at riders who want the drama and performance of a Ducati V4 engine, but in a more relaxed, cruiser-style package than the standard Diavel. Practical? Debatable. Distinctive and attention-grabbing? Absolutely.
