We take a look at the differences between the Maruti Invicto and Toyota Innova Hycross as there’s a handful of them

The Maruti Invicto, which has just been launched, is the result of the partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. But instead of the usual Maruti offering being rebadged and sold as a Toyota, the Invicto is actually the first Toyota-made vehicle rebadged as a Maruti in India. And just like the usual rebadged siblings, Maruti has given its MPV a few exclusive design bits.

Here’s a closer look at their differences:

Exterior Styling

Starting at the front, both MPVs sport a very similar nose. And just like Maruti did with the Grand Vitara, the Invicto, too, sports a chrome strip flanking its huge grille and connecting – and actually extending beneath – its headlights. You also get slight tweaks to the lower bumper elements, and that rounds up the changes at the front. The Hycross, on the other end, gets an unobstructed grille, still flanked by the LED headlights, but the elements inside it are different.

Viewed in profile, the Toyota and Maruti are almost identical, with a similar flat-ish roofline and flared wheel arches. And yet, both sport a unique design for their alloy wheels. That said, while the Invicto sports dual-tone alloys, they are smaller 17-inch units instead of the Hycross’ 18-inch monotone rims.

Even the upright rear end of the Invicto resembles that of the Innova Hycross, save for Nexa’s signature tri-elements inside the LED taillights. The rest, including the roof spoiler and the rear bumper design, are shared as is between the two. All in all, the Invicto and Innova Hycross follow the same treatment as other rebadged Maruti-Toyota offerings and choosing between the two will come down to personal preference.

Interior Styling

The cabin structure of the Maruti and Toyota offerings are identical. The only differentiating factors on the Invicto is the black colourfor the dashboard along with the with champagne coloured surrounds. In the Hycross, the interior is finished in black /brown hue with silver inserts.

Of course, you get the Maruti logo on the thick steering wheel instead of the Toyota badge, and there’s also a unique seat upholstery for the Maruti Invicto.

Features

The features list of the two siblings is identical for the most part, but the Innova Hycross inches ahead in terms of the number of features available. Common features include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated and powered front seat with memory settings, 10.1-inch touchscreen system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 7-inch digital driver’s display.

On the creature comfort front, the Maruti lags behind slightly and misses out on the 9-speaker JBL sound system, Ottoman seats for the middle row.

The safety kit is also shared, with equipment like six airbags, TPMS, front and rear disc brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and ISOFIX mounts. But the top-spec trim of the Innova Hycross also offers ADAS features, which is missing from the Invicto’s brochure. The base-spec Invicto also misses out on parking sensors, although it does get a rear view camera.

Powertrains

The Maruti Invicto gets the 186PS/206Nm 2-litre  petrol-hybrid powertrain from the Innova Hycross (no pure petrol option here), mated to an e-CVT box. Both MPVs boast the same claimed fuel efficiency figure of 23.24kmpl.

Price and Rivals

Maruti retails the Invicto between Rs 24.79 lakh and Rs 28.42 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Toyota Innova Hycross is sold between Rs 18.55 lakh and Rs 29.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The huge disparity in their starting prices is because of the availability of the pure-petrol option on the Toyota. However, due to a couple of feature deletions, the Invicto’s top-end trim is actually much affordable than the Hycross.

Both rival each other and offer premium alternatives to the Kia Carens and Toyota Innova Crysta.
