Triumph Scrambler 400 XC Tubeless Spoke Wheels Price Revealed

Triumph’s Scrambler 400 XC has hit Indian roads at Rs 2,94,147 (ex-showroom), positioning itself as a more rugged sibling to the Scrambler 400 X. The key highlight? Tubeless spoke wheels and a couple of extra accessories as standard - all for Rs 27,000 more than the base model. At first glance, the XC gives off serious big-bike vibes, mimicking the design language of its larger sibling, the Scrambler 1200 X. But if you have the regular Scrambler X and want to swap the wheels with the tubeless spoke ones, there’s a big question looming: are the wheels actually worth it?

Now that Triumph has revealed the standalone pricing of these wheels, it might make you dizzy. The front tubeless spoke rim is priced at a hefty Rs 34,876, and the rear follows closely at Rs 36,875. That’s Rs 71,751 if you want to retrofit them on your Scrambler 400 X.

To be fair, these wheels are imported and made by the same OEMs that supply parts for premium models like the Tiger 900 Rally Pro and the Scrambler 1200 X. However, there's a major caveat — the warranty for these wheels apply only to the rim, and not the spokes. The rim is covered only for manufacturing defects and not for “run-out/bent” rims as per the official statement. Here’s where it gets worse: you can officially retrofit the tubeless spoke wheels in your alloy wheel-equipped Scrambler 400 X via an authorised Triumph service center, but they’re not covered under warranty. How unfair!

Here’s the thing: tubeless spoke wheels certainly amp up the visual appeal, and give the bike a more adventurous silhouette. They are also pretty capable at absorbing impacts much better than alloys, and with the tubeless construction, they can also handle punctures better than tubed ones. However because of the exorbitant pricing, they end up being more about show than go. For most users, the standard alloy wheels of the Scrambler 400 X will do just fine, even if they occasionally enjoy a bit of trail riding. We haven’t come across any major complaints about those alloys bending or breaking under trail use either.

If serious off-road adventures are on your mind, it might be wiser to look beyond the XC altogether. The KTM 390 Enduro R, priced a notch higher at Rs 3,38,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi), is a far more off-road-ready machine. With its 21-inch front wheel, proper off-road tyres, and traditional tubed spoke wheels, which still perform better in hardcore terrain, it’s built to handle more abuse when the going gets tough.

While the Scrambler 400 XC certainly brings style and added presence, the real-world off-road advantage of the tubeless spoke wheels over the standard Scrambler 400 X doesn’t really justify the expensive price tag. Unless you’re buying it purely for its aesthetics, the extra cost may be better spent elsewhere — perhaps on gear, or even a more trail-ready bike - dirty deeds can be done dirt cheap with a second-hand Hero Xpulse 200.
