Top 5 Bikes That Are Long Due For Meaningful Updates

New year makeovers are always interesting, especially when they happen on bikes that have remained more or less the same for a long time. We have a list of 5 bikes which can do with some significant updates to keep them fresh and relevant.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise

India’s most affordable cruiser bike, and one of the first ones in the country, the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise deserves a whole bunch of updates. A smartphone connected console with navigation (at least turn-by-turn) and call/music control will really amp up its cruising persona. Next up, features like dual-channel ABS and traction control will make it a safer bike. Bajaj could also offer a bunch of official accessories like soft luggage and touring seats.

Suzuki Gixxer 150 Range

The Suzuki Gixxer and the Suzuki Gixxer SF have been really wonderful bikes, especially mechanically. These are quite underrated in their segment but features like a TFT console, revised looks, and safety features like dual-channel ABS will make them more appealing.

Suzuki Gixxer 250 Range

Just like the 150s, the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer SF 250 are fantastic bikes. It really hurts to see the 250s not have a colour TFT console when the Access 125 has one. While these have dual-channel ABS, these can do with traction control. A slipper clutch and a quickshifter can up their sporty quotient but those can substantially increase the price. 

Honda NX200

The Honda NX200 has so much potential to be a fantastic road-oriented ADV. While its looks and performance are decent enough, additional equipment will only level it up. Most importantly it can do with longer travel suspension. That will increase its ground clearance as well and make it a proper ADV. A larger fuel tank will also increase its touring credentials.

Kawasaki W175

You have to give props to Kawasaki for making India’s most affordable 175cc retrobike. The Kawasaki W175’s lowest variant is priced from Rs 1.13 lakh (ex-showroom). While that can be as barebones as it can be, the top-end W125 can really do with bits like an LED headlight, smartphone connectivity, and maybe slightly more premium-looking mirrors.
