In the latest development regarding Honda’s lineup, the third-gen Amaze has scored a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. With this safety rating, the Amaze joins the Maruti Dzire to become the second sub-4 metre sedan with an impressive 5-star BNCAP safety rating. Let’s take a look at how the Amaze performed:
Score: 28.33/32.00
Starting off with the adult occupant protection scores, the Amaze scored 28.33 out of a maximum 32 points, earning it a clear and impressive 5 stars. Both adult dummies showcased good to adequate protection in the chest, tibias and knees, with a ‘good’ rating for the feet as well.

In the Frontal Offset Deformable Test, it scored 14.33 out of 16, with a score of 14.00/16 for the Side Movable Deformable Barrier test as well. It also cleared the Side Pole Impact test, ensuring optimum protection for occupants inside.
Score: 40.81/49.00
Regarding the Child Occupant Protection scores, Amaze secured 40.81 points out of a maximum of 49 points, earning it a rating of 4 stars. It also scored a full 12/12 in the CRS installation tests, and 23.81/24 in the Dynamic score category, ensuring that the child seats fitted firmly and securely.

In terms of the vehicle assessment score, the Amaze scored 5.00 out of 13, leaving considerable room for improvement.
This 5-star rating just adds to the premium appeal of the Honda Amaze, which packs in a long list of active as well as passive features, including a first-in-segment Level 2 ADAS suite, 6 airbags (as standard), electronic stability control, reverse parking camera, rear parking sensors, traction control and hill hold assist.
Honda offers the Amaze in three variants with prices ranging from Rs. 7.41 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 90 PS and 110 Nm, which comes mated to 5-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission options.
In terms of rivals, the Honda Amaze goes up against other compact sedans like the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor.
While Honda does not have a large lineup or massive volumes in India, it is still encouraging to know that the carmaker focuses on the safety of its buyers. With mass-market cars like the Dzire, Amaze and Altroz bringing in top-notch safety ratings, the fact remains that budget cars today are a lot safer to handle our chaotic roads than just a few years ago.
