The third-generation Honda Amaze was recently launched in three broad variants, with prices ranging from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, the second-gen Amaze continues to be on sale alongside the new model, and is available in three variants, along with a special edition. One key distinction between the two lies in their lower-spec trims, which are named differently.
In this article, we’ll explore the key differences between the base variant of the new Amaze and the one-above-base S variant of the old Amaze, beyond their names:

The 2024 Honda Amaze introduces a new base variant, the 'V', which comes with the option of a CVT transmission. This is a notable upgrade compared to the previous generation's base-spec 'E' trim, which did not offer a CVT. So, we’ll take into account the one-above-base S trim of the older model which gets the automatic variant too. That said, the new base Amaze variant commands a premium of up to Rs 67,000 over the older one.

The new Honda Amaze brings a fresh design that draws inspiration from the Honda City and Elevate while retaining the familiar boxy silhouette of its predecessor. Impressively, the updates extend even to the base variant, which comes quite well decorated in terms of its design.

At the front, the new Amaze V features LED projector headlights and LED DRLs, a clear upgrade over the older S trim, which relied on halogen headlights and lacked DRLs. However, neither model includes fog lamps in these trims.

Moving to the side profile, both the new and old models share body-colored ORVMs with integrated LED indicators and 14-inch steel wheels with covers.

At the rear, the third-gen Amaze sports newly designed taillights in its base-spec V variant, resembling the City's tail lights, and a shark-fin antenna, while the older model also features a shark-fin antenna but has C-shaped taillights.

Looking at the features list, the new Honda Amaze’s base variant clearly justifies its price premium. It’s worth noting that this comparison pits the new base-spec against the old one-above-base trim. The new base variant comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay–features completely absent in the older version.

Additionally, the new Amaze base-spec offers a larger semi-digital instrument cluster, keyless entry, paddle shifters (in CVT variants), six airbags, electronic stability control, and hill start assist. These upgrades make the new model significantly more feature-rich and safer than its predecessor.
The new Honda Amaze saw no change in its powertrain hence there is no difference on this bit. Both the models are powered by a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine which produces 90 PS and 110 Nm. Both get a 5-speed manual and a 7-step CVT automatic as transmission choices.

In conclusion, the Honda Amaze remains a well-equipped offering, even in its base-spec variants. The higher trims take it a step further with more features and even a segment-first ADAS, strengthening its appeal.
