Launch on August 15.
The highly anticipated Mahindra Thar Roxx is all set to officially launch on August 15, and the Indian automaker has yet again released a teaser video of it, on its social media handles. The earlier teased videos of the Thar Roxx gave glimpses of the production ready model with redesigned styling elements. But this one adds to the hype by showing the Thar Roxx in action, rolling down the road. In this article, we take a look at what all we can decipher from the latest teaser.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx has not just grown in size, but has also gained a more premium appeal than the 3-door model. The front fascia of the Thar Roxx gets a newly designed grille with Mahindra badging embossed in the centre, It now also gets a new LED headlamp setup with C-shaped LED DRLS giving it a more upmarket appearance. No need for aftermarket LEDs here!
Lower down, the bumper design has been revised with silver finish and housing for the fog lamps. The most prominent change in the side profile is definitely the addition of doors for second row passengers along with an extended wheelbase. Notably, the rear door handles are situated on the c-pillar of the rear doors. The Thar Roxx also gets a premium doorstep and fancy looking dual-tone alloy wheels.
The rear of the Mahindra Thar Roxx gets an LED tail lamp unit instead of the halogen ones found in the Thar 3-door model. The earlier spied test mules also featured a different looking spare wheel cover, which could make its way in the final production units as well.
Though Mahindra has not yet showcased the interiors of the Thar Roxx, the previous spy shots suggest that it will get a lighter coloured theme for the interior instead of the all-black interiors in the Thar 3-door model. The dashboard layout could possibly remain identical but with better features and equipment like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, push button start/stop, wireless phone charger and a dual zone automatic climate control unit.
Safety features could include all-wheel disk brakes, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360 degree camera with front and rear parking sensors and even ADAS features like emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx could borrow the engine options from its Thar 3-door counterpart including the 132PS 2.2-litre diesel and 150PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine options. But they could be tuned to offer slightly more power. These engines could be offered with a 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic transmission options. The Thar Roxx will most likely get both the two wheel drive and four wheel drive configurations.
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is all set to launch on August 15, and we expect it to be priced from around the Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. It will compete against other off-road capable SUVs like the Force Gurkha 5-door and will be a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
