A heavily camouflaged prototype version of the Tata Sierra was spotted testing in India for the very first time. The Sierra is set to launch in the second half of 2025, in both ICE and EV forms. The test mule is the combustion-powered version of the Sierra, and the same iteration had been revealed at the Auto Expo 2025. The Sierra has a cult following in the Indian market, and the new version seems to continue the legacy in a more mature and evolved manner.
Without further ado, here are the 5 things you need to know about the Sierra ahead of its much-anticipated launch:
Sierra’s design is one of its key strengths, and it is the perfect combination of retro and modern! The central air intake on the test mule gives away that it's the ICE version of the Sierra. One can also spot the split headlight setup at the front, which consists of connected LED DRLs and the vertically stacked LED headlamps.

While you will get 19-inch alloy wheels on higher-spec variants, the test mule was spotted with steel wheels. The rectangular rear window look of the OG Sierra has been recreated and looks very unique among other SUVs in the market. The boxy silhouette and the flat rear end further add to the charm of the SUV, and you get connected LED tail lights for a modern touch. To take a look at the design details, head over to this story.

While the interior of the vehicle spotted was not revealed, the Sierra ICE’s interior was showcased at the Auto Expo 2025. Tata has taken the minimalist approach with a hint of modern appeal. It comes with a floating three-screen setup which almost spans the width of the dashboard. Complementing the exterior shade, it features yellow accents across the cabin. It gets the familiar chunky-looking four-spoke steering wheel with the illuminated Tata logo which we have seen on the Harrier and Curvv SUVs.

There is still plenty of time before Tata reveals the exact list of features that will be offered with the production-spec Tata Sierra. However, we can expect it to come loaded to the brim with features such as the aforementioned three screens, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, a powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control and powered front seats with ventilation.
In terms of safety, it could get up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS.
We expect Tata to equip the Sierra ICE with a 170 PS 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine, which will likely be available in both manual and automatic options.

Furthermore, it will also get an electric version with multiple battery pack options. It could get a claimed range of around 550 km.
The Tata Sierra will be positioned in the fierce and popular compact SUV segment. It is expected to be priced from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and MG Astor.

The Sierra is much-awaited as it brings a breath of fresh air to the SUV segment, along with a hint of nostalgia.
