With Level 1 ADAS and a new Red Dark Edition, Tata’s bestseller just got both brains and a bolder wardrobe

Tata Nexon

It's a double celebration for Tata Motors, the Nexon has now officially become India's top-selling car for September 2025, and the domestic brand has celebrated the milestone with a technology boost and a touch of cosmetic drama. The sub-4m SUV now features Level 1 ADAS, a first for the ICE Nexon, and receives a dramatic Red Dark Edition, priced from Rs 12.44 lakh (ex-showroom).

If that sounds familiar, that’s because the Nexon EV received a similar Level 1 ADAS update last month, hinting that Tata’s serious about future-proofing its entire SUV portfolio. The idea? To make cutting-edge safety tech more accessible, even in the mass-market space.

What’s New?

The newest Nexon update isn't all about figures or badges; it's all about an actual jump in safety. The Level 1 ADAS package introduces features like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Centring System, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Moreover, it also gets rear sunshades like the updated Nexon EV.

In everyday language, that equates to the Nexon being able to see, feel, and respond better to what's going on on the road. It may not drive itself (not yet, at least), but it can jump in gently when the driver needs some prompting, or a second pair of eyes. And yes, it does not get Adaptive Cruise Control, hence it cannot use the Level 2 ADAS tag, yet.

Then there's the new Red Dark Edition, the Nexon's version of a little black dress with red lipstick. The Atlas Black paint, red accents, leatherette ventilated seats with red stitching, and Dark-embroidered headrests lend it a certain, sporty charm. Inside, red accents streak across the dashboard and centre console, making the cabin rich and more alive than ever.

ZigSays….

The Nexon's tale just keeps on getting more intriguing. With Level 1 ADAS now included in its safety armour, Tata's proving it can play the tech game as much as its international competitors as anyone. And let's not forget the timing, this announcement comes just a day after Hyundai India revealed that the next-gen Venue will get Level 2 ADAS. That is to say, Tata wasn't going to lose easily against the competition in the sub-4m SUV space.

The Red Dark Edition adds that little something extra to the Nexon, while the ADAS update provides reassurance for everyday commutes. Collectively, they make India's most popular car feel just that little bit better complete, and a whole lot more future-proof.
