Renault has confirmed that the Duster SUV will make its return to India on Republic Day 2026. The nameplate first arrived in 2012 and went on to define the midsize SUV segment in the country. This time around, Renault will bring the globally sold third-generation Duster, which will be built on the CMF-B platform that is also being localised for India.
Here’s a look at what we currently know about the upcoming Renault Duster based on official information and global-spec details:
The third-generation Duster adopts a more upright and rugged design compared to the earlier model sold in India. Up front, the international-spec Duster gets sleek LED headlamps with Renault lettering spread across the grille. The bumper features heavy cladding, wide air intakes and circular fog lamps, while the sculpted bonnet adds to its muscular appearance.

In profile, the window line carries forward the Duster’s familiar shape, but the SUV now gets more pronounced wheel arch cladding, sharper creases and new alloy wheel designs. At the rear, the boxy theme continues with C-shaped LED tail lamps, thick cladding on the bumper and functional roof rails. Renault has also teased minor lighting revisions for the India-spec version.

While the India-spec cabin hasn’t been revealed yet, it is expected to closely mirror the global model. The international Duster features a layered dashboard design with angular elements and hexagonal AC vents, giving it a more rugged interior theme. Feature highlights are expected to include a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera.

Notably, the new Duster could also be the first Renault model in India to offer ADAS, marking a significant update in terms of the safety suite.
Renault is likely to introduce the Duster in India with a petrol-only lineup initially.
The SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. Internationally, this engine produces around 156 PS. At a later stage, Renault could also introduce a strong-hybrid powertrain, which combines a petrol engine with electric motors and an e-CVT gearbox.

A diesel engine is unlikely to make a return, and while global markets get an AWD option with an electric rear axle, its India launch remains uncertain due to cost considerations.

The next-gen Renault Duster is expected to be priced competitively between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, newly launched Tata Sierra and even the Tata Curvv.

Renault’s decision to bring the global-spec Duster to India could help it regain relevance in a segment it once helped create.
The return of the Duster is an important moment for Renault in India. With a rugged design, updated interiors and the possibility of modern safety tech, the new model addresses many areas where the brand has lagged in recent years.
How competitive it turns out to be will depend largely on pricing and localisation, both of which will become clearer when it is launched in the next few weeks.
