This will be the first Toyota model that will be rebadged and sold as a Maruti Suzuki in India

  • Maruti’s version of Innova Hycross to launch within next two months.
  • Expected to get different styling elements for differentiation.
  • Maruti says Hycross’s high demand shouldn’t affect its customers.
  • Expected to get both the petrol and strong-hybrid engine options.

The first Toyota model that will be rebadged and sold as a Maruti Suzuki in the country will be none other than the Innova Hycross. And we now have some good news for potential buyers of this upcoming model. Maruti Suzuki will be launching its version of the Innova Hycross within the next two months.

Based on recently shared Toyota/Maruti cars, one can definitely expect differentiating styling touches and the Hycross to bear a different fascia, lighting elements, alloy wheels and bumper designs for differentiation. And on the inside, while the dashboard layout wouldn’t be tinkered around with, it can get a different colour scheme.

All well and good. But currently, the Hycross in itself, is basking in the success party. So much that Toyota had to halt bookings for the top-spec ZX and ZX (O) trims for a while so it can cater to the existing order books. So despite a lengthy waiting period for the Hycross, Maruti is confident that it shouldn’t affect much for its version when it goes on sale.

The Hycross gets two engine options and we expect the Maruti model to get both of them. The base option is a 173PS 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, while the top-spec choice is a 186PS 2-litre strong-hybrid unit. They come with a CVT and e-CVT, respectively, and drive the front wheels.

And in terms of price, you can expect it to be in a similar ballpark as Hycross, which starts from Rs 18.55 lakh (ex-showroom). When the Maruti’s version goes on sale, it will lock horns with the donor car (read: Hycross), while being a premium alternative to the Toyota Innova Crysta, Mahindra Marazzo and Kia Carens.
