We all know that the first Maruti car to score a 5-star crash-safety rating from Global NCAP was the Dzire, which features six airbags as a standard fitment. Now, the popular sub-4m SUV, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza has also been equipped with six airbags as standard after the Maruti Celerio which received a similar update recently, meaning that the carmaker could be eyeing “Dzire-able” safety standards for more cars.
Notably, with the update, the Brezza marks itself amongst the ranks of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Kia Syros, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq, all of which offer 6 airbags (as standard). This is expected to make the Brezza more competitive in its segment.
The previous-generation Brezza, which was called the Vitara Brezza, scored a 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP in 2018 and hence a 5-star rating with the newer iteration of the SUV will be a cherry on top.
That said, let us take a look at the updated safety ratings of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
With the latest update that added six airbags to all the variants of the Brezza, the safety suite now includes an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill-hold assist, 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors. It also comes with 3-point seatbelts for all seats and ISOFIX child seat anchorages on the rear seats.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is decently loaded with features and nothing has changed after the update. The onboard amenities include a 9-inch touchscreen, a semi-digital driver’s display with a multi-information display (MID) and a 6-speaker Arkamys-tuned sound system. A single-pane sunroof, wireless phone charger automatic headlights and wipers, automatic climate control with rear vents, a heads-up display and paddle shifters with the automatic variants.
The powertrain specifications of the Brezza have not been meddled with and it continues to be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 103 PS and 137 Nm and is mated either with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. That said, a more frugal but less powerful CNG option is also available with the same engine that produces a reduced output of 88 PS and 121 Nm.
Prices of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza were recently hiked up by Rs 20,000, after which the sub-4m offering now ranges between Rs 8.54 lakh to Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). At this price point, it rivals the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV 3XO and also the newer entrants, i.e. the Skoda Kylaq as well as the Kia Syros.
While the move is silent, it is quite apparent that Maruti has now learnt that a “safe manufacturer” image doesn’t hurt and can prove to be a nice feather in the cap for a product, helping to boost its sales.
