Mahindra Thar 5-door Partially Leaked Ahead Of India Launch, 9 Different Design Elements Seen Over Existing Thar 3-door

Mahindra has been readying the Thar 5-door, which is soon to launch in the coming month. Before we get to see the vehicle in its flesh, the upcoming Thar 5-door has been partially leaked, giving  a glimpse of its design revisions over the smaller three-door model. Let's take a closer look at the spy shots and try to decipher everything that we can.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Whats Spotted

• The Mahindra Thar5-door’s new body coloured grille is its first talking point which has been redesigned to make it distinctive to the 3 door model. 

• The headlamp housing continues to be round, but the Thar 5 door will get an all LED headlight unit (possibly limited to the top-spec trims).  

• It also gets a redesigned bumper with contrasting silver inserts housing the fog lamps. 

• A premium looking side step has also been added for better ingress and egress.

• We could also notice a 360 degree camera setup, as the ORVMs get the camera lenses situated down below. This feature isn’t offered with the regular Thar 3-door. 

• Moving to the side, the elongated wheelbase has liberated space for the second row doors which get the handles on the door pillars.

• Keen eyed viewers will notice that the top-spec variants will feature a panoramic sunroof, while the lower trims could get a single-pane sunroof as spied earlier.

• Also, we can notice the light coloured interior theme, as opposed to the dark-themed interiors of the 3 door model.

• Top-spec variants will sport dual-tone multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Furthermore, Though, the back could not be spied, but we reckon it will also carry few changes to again set it apart from the 3 door model. 

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Other Features Onboard

The earlier spy shots have revealed that the Thar 5 door will be feature packed up to the brim by borrowing a lot many niceties from its siblings like the XUV700 and Scorpio N. 

It will include all the features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push button start/stop functionality, and a panoramic sunroof (likely in top-spec trims with single-pane sunroof for lower variants). 

The Mahindra Thar 5-door could also get additional features like a dual-zone automatic climate control unit, a wireless phone charger and premium Sony speakers.  

On the safety front, it could get 6-airbags as standard across the trims along with ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, all four wheel disk brakes and even ADAS features like autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. 

Mahindra Thar 5 Door: Expected Powertrain

The Mahindra Thar 5 Door could borrow the 2-litre turbo petrol engine (150 PS) and existing 2.2-litre diesel engine (132 PS), but with a possible retune for more power. We expect it to be launched with both 6-speed manual and a torque converter automatic transmission along with both four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive configurations. 

The Thar 5-door is expected to be launched on August 15 at a probable starting price of around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
