Hero Glamour X 125 vs TVS Raider 125 vs Honda SP 125

The 125cc sporty commuter segment in India is becoming quite hot. Three biggest names now in this category are the new Hero Glamour X 125, TVS Raider 125, and the Honda SP125. These three bikes are vying for the top spot — to be championed as the best 125cc bike in India. All three of them have something unique in their arsenal, and each of them looks better than the previous one. All of that can be quite confusing for a buyer who’s trying to choose one. We lay all of their cards on the table including the aces up their sleeves, all in the hopes of helping you pick the right one.

A glance at the engine specs makes it seem like all the three bikes are almost at par. The new kid on the block — the Hero Glamour X 125 — outpowers the other two, but gets out-torqued (if we can call it that). While the Raider makes slightly lesser power, it makes its peak power a good 1,000rpm earlier than the Glamour. The Raider also makes the most torque and at a lower rpm. This should mean you won’t have to work the throttle to eke the most out of the engine. All this while, the SP 125 is seemingly outcast and to be relegated to a corner with its lowest engine output. However, the ace up its sleeve is its weight. It’s 10kg lighter than the Glamour X 125 and 5kg lighter than the Raider. We will later talk about how that affects usability, but for now, it should give the SP a fighting chance if we were to hypothetically put the 125cc triumvirates in a straight-line drag.

Again, looking at the underpinnings, all the three bikes are almost similarly specced. The Glamour X and the Honda SP 125 have the same wheel and tyre sizes. In comparison, the Raider has smaller wheels. Now, that means the Hero-Honda duo would have a more comfortable ride while the Raider would be a smidge sportier. All the three bikes have a similar braking setup, but the Raider trumps the safety quotient with a combined braking system.

First things first, the TVS Raider 125 has the lowest seat height of the two, and also the most ground clearance. While the difference in seat heights isn’t much, the 10mm lower seat will mean the Raider is that much easier for shorter riders to get on to, and to put their feet down when stopped. While the SP 125 has the least ground clearance, it weighs the least and has the largest fuel tank. The low kerb weight should make it easier to move the bike around in traffic and in parking lots – increasing everyday convenience.FeaturesComing to features, we’ll make it easier by telling you the unique features of each of the bikes. Starting with the Glamour, it’s the only 125cc bike in India with cruise control. This feature should be of good use if you ride on highways a lot. Especially if your commutes include highway riding, it should make them a bit less fatiguing. It also gets ride-by-wire and 3 riding modes that alter its torque output. There’s a panic brake alert – it turns on the hazard lights in case of emergency panic braking. Another unique feature on it is a kickstarter — almost unheard of in fuel-injected bikes.

The TVS Raider 125 has a TFT console, which not only has the usual connectivity but also voice assist, sports updates, and weather updates. The Raider’s ace here is the Glide-through-technology — a low-speed crawl assist that helps you maintain a slow momentum without having to modulate clutch and throttle. This comes in handy in slow-moving traffic conditions. The Honda SP 125 also gets a TFT console with similar functions as the Raider. However, this gets a silent starter that makes the starting of the bike less dramatic as compared to the other two.

For brevity’s sake, we have only considered the top variants of each of the three bikes. In the light of that, the Raider becomes the most expensive, but it also offers a lot of features and performance. Without beating around the bush, here’s what you should buy: Honda SP 125 if you want a lighter bike, but can do away with a bit of performance. The TVS Raider 125 if you don’t mind spending the extra money for features as well as performance. The Hero Glamour if cruise control and riding modes catch your fancy. That said, nothing wrong with either of the three bikes and it would also depend on which one you think looks better as well.
