Quick Highlights:
-
Triumph has launched the Scrambler 400 XC in India
-
Gets cross-spoke tubeless wheels as standard and weighs 5kg more than before
-
Costs Rs 26,940 more than the standard variant
The Scrambler 400 X has always been a capable scrambler in terms of its looks, the performance and ride quality it offers, and the features it comes with. Now, Triumph has taken things up a notch by launching the Scrambler 400 XC in India, its most expensive motorcycle based on the 400cc platform at Rs 2,94,147 (ex-showroom Delhi). The bike is now more off-road focused thanks to the addition of cross-spoke tubeless wheels. While the size of the wheels remains the same at 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear, the cross-spoke wheels can take more punishment than alloy wheels when going off-road. With tubeless compatibility, they also reduce the hassle of repairing a puncture over regular spoke wheels with tubed tyres.

What’s More?
While the Scrambler 400 XC shares the same underpinnings as the Scrambler 400 X, it does get some aesthetic changes to make the bike even more appealing. The most noticeable being the addition of high-mounted front fender, and a short flyscreen - both body-coloured. Other changes include adjustable brake and clutch levers, a revised aluminium sump guard, a new engine guard and a pair of new grab rails (same as the Speed 400).
The XC also comes with three new colour options: Racing Yellow, Storm Grey and Vanilla White. All said and done, due to the addition of new accessories and spoked wheels, the vehicle’s kerb weight has gone up (heavier by 5kg compared to the Scrambler 400 X) and is now at 190kg. However, we don’t think that’s substantial enough to affect the bike’s handling but we’ll be able to judge properly only once we ride the motorcycle.

Price, Availability And Rivals
While the regular Scrambler 400 X, which comes with alloy wheels, is priced at Rs 2,67,207 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Scrambler 400 XC commands a premium of Rs 26,940 over the X. It goes against the likes of Husqvarna Svartpilen 401, Royal Enfield Scram 440 and the Yezdi Scrambler in India. One can also consider the KTM 390 Adventure X in the same price range. Though the ADV has same sized wheels, they are alloys.
The bike is available across all Triumph dealerships in India, and comes with a standard 5-year warranty along with 1-year roadside assistance. You also have the option to extend it to five more years, along with multiple Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) packages. Oh, and Triumph also offers over 20 accessories for the Scrambler 400 XC.

ZigSays
The Triumph Scrambler 400 XC is and will be the most hardcore off-road oriented motorcycle in the sub-400cc segment in India by Triumph, well, until the Tiger 400 comes. As for the existing customers who wish to install these wheels to their Scrambler 400 X, Triumph hasn’t officially said anything about retrofitting or its pricing. We hope Triumph announces details regarding these soon, so that existing customers can also enjoy their Scramblers to the fullest.
