A legendary nameplate has made a return to India as Triumph has launched the Daytona 660 at Rs 9,72,450 (ex-showroom). This makes it Rs 2.56 lakh more expensive than the Kawasaki Ninja 650!
The Triumph Daytona 660 gets a clean design language and gets tall clip-on handlebars with a not-so-aggressive footpeg positioning that should translate into a more relaxed riding posture compared to the Triumph Daytona 675R. The sports tourer is the third bike to be based on the manufacturer’s 660cc triple platform after the Triumph Trident 660 and Triumph Tiger Sport 660. Powering it is a 660cc, liquid-cooled, in-line 3-cylinder engine producing 95PS at 11,250rpm and 69Nm at 8,250rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch. The bi-directioal quickshifter is available as an accessory.
The suspension setup consists of a 41mm big piston invented fork and a monoshock (both from Showa) while braking setup consists of twin 310mm discs with 4-piston radial calipers at the front and a single 220mm disc with a single-piston sliding caliper at the rear. The bike gets a 120-section front and 180-section rear tyre setup with 17-inch wheels at both ends. It has a seat height of 810mm, wheelbase of 1425mm and a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres.
The instrument console is a mixture of TFT and LCD screens, similar to that of the Trident 660. Bluetooth connectivity for call and music controls along with turn-by-turn navigation is available as an optional extra. Triumph has also made accessories available for the Daytona 660 like heated grips, an underseat USB socket and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). It rivals the likes of the Aprilia RS 660, Honda CBR650R and the Kawasaki Ninja 650.
