It is the third bike to be based on Triumph’s 660cc triple platform

A legendary moniker has been brought back to life but probably not in a way that we would have liked. The moniker in question is ‘Daytona’ and it has made a comeback in the form of the all-new Triumph Daytona 660 when the British manufacturer launched it in the UK with a price tag of £8,595 (approx. Rs 9.08 lakh).

The all-new bike is the third bike to be based on Triumph’s 660cc triple platform after the Trident 660 and the Tiger Sport 660. It is powered by the same 660cc, liquid-cooled, in-line 3-cylinder engine producing 95PS at 11,250rpm and 69Nm at 8,250rpm with the engine redlining at 12,650rpm. This means the 660cc 3-cylinder engine makes 17% more power and 9% more torque than the Trident 660. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist clutch.

The suspension setup consists of a 41mm inverted fork with 110mm wheel travel and a Showa monoshock with 130mm wheel travel. Braking duties are taken care of by twin 310mm discs with 4-piston radial calipers at the front and a single 220mm disc with a single-piston sliding caliper at the rear.

The all-new Triumph Daytona 660 is built on a tubular steel perimeter frame and the tall clip-on handlebars along with the not-so-sporty footpeg placement gives the bike a more relaxed riding position, which makes it more of a sports tourer than an outright supersport. This is the sad part of the moniker’s return we mentioned earlier as the previous Daytona models were always hardcore supersport bikes and giving a sports tourer that name tag just sullies the whole experience. It gets an underbelly exhaust and twin-LED headlight setup and the overall styling has curvy lines all around.

Features-wise, it gets a TFT instrument console, switchable traction control and three riding modes: Sport, Road and Rain. Smartphone connectivity is available through the My Triumph Connectivity System accessory pack, which provides turn-by-turn navigation, phone and music updates on the screen. Quickshifter is available as an accessory along with 29 other accessories from Triumph for the Daytona 660 like heated grips, underseat USB socket and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The Triumph Daytona 660 will be coming to India and is expected to be launched in March 2024 with a price tag of about Rs 9.20 lakh (ex-showroom). Its rivals will be the Aprilia RS 660, Honda CBR650R, Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the upcoming Yamaha R7.
