Gogoro, the Taiwanese swappable battery giant and EV manufacturer, has unveiled the Gogoro CrossOver GX250 in India, its first electric scooter in the country. The company has also launched its battery swapping ecosystem. The facilities currently will only be available to B2B customers in Delhi and Goa, and later to B2B customers in Mumbai and Pune in the first half of 2024, with the direct consumer availability planned for the second quarter of 2024.
The Gogoro CrossOver scooter range will be offered in 3 variants, the CrossOver GX250, CrossOver 50 and CrossOver S. With the GX250 being the one that is immediately available. The scooter is manufactured in Maharashtra, making it the brand’s first made-in-India scooter. It will integrate many India specific modifications that were requested by Gogoro pilot riders in India.
Coming to the design, the scooter features one that can be described as very rugged and utilitarian. It features large body panels, a spacious floorboard, and a split-type seat with pillion section that can be folded to mount luggage on and act as a rider backrest also, just like the Hero Electric Nyx.
Other than that the scooter is designed with ample storage space, including 26 locking points and the ability to leverage 4 cargo areas, the area above the headlight, floorboard, seat and rear cargo space.
Overall the scooter is designed to be one that can take on rough terrain, with a chassis that is built on an all-terrain frame that is claimed to provide more strength and better stability. The suspension setup is based on a telescopic fork in the front with fork gaiters and long twin shock absorbers in the rear giving it a decent 176mm of ground clearance.
Coming to the powertrain, the CrossOver GX250 gets a 2.5 kW Direct Drive that provides a top speed of over 60kmph, and a certified range of 111km. In terms of features it comes with keyless function, a digital instrument cluster and swappable batteries.
The company has also mentioned that it will continue its partnership with Zypp Electric, an EV-as-a-service platform for its EV fleet. As for the city of Goa, the company has teamed up with FutureEV. The latter plans to enter Goa and offer Gogoro e-scooters and swap stations exclusively, for tourists. Pilot run begins on December 25, 2023 and commercial launch is set to happen in the first quarter of 2024 calendar year.
