The iconic Pular 150’s sales performance in April has been dismal, but there’s more than what meets the eye

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 put the Pune-based bikemaker on the map with regards to the motorcycle segment of India. Its performance, coupled with the reasonable price tag, enabled enthusiasts to enjoy a pocket-friendly performance biking experience. However, the SIAM sales data of April’s market performance numbers tell a different story. Here’s a table comparing the production, domestic and export sales numbers in January, February and April:

As you can see from the tables, there’s no doubt that the production as well as sales have dropped considerably from last year. This could be due to several factors including the general inflation, as well as the economic and logistics impact due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war, among others.

However, as far as January and February are concerned, the domestic and export sales numbers more or less match up to the production figures. That’s not the case with April, when sales have gone down considerably, despite the production and exports numbers having more or less stabilised. In fact, the sales went down by 89.6 percent compared to the same month last year.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Side

What we can see from this table is that Bajaj seems to be stockpiling the Pulsar 150 from April, so that the unsold stocks can be exported in the subsequent months. This makes sense considering the launch of the 2022 Bajaj Pulsar 150 is on the anvil, and Bajaj would want customers in the home market to go for that instead of the current-generation model. So ideally, we believe the production numbers of May could include more of the new-generation Pulsar 150 and less of the older model. That way, once the updated bike is launched, presumably by the first week of July, it will have stocks ready to sell.

The 2022 Bajaj Pulsar 150 was spotted in pretty much a production-ready form recently. To know more about the expected price, features and other details, head to our exclusive story here. The upcoming Pulsar will rival the Honda Unicorn, TVS Apache RTR 160 2V and Yamaha FZ.
