Car buyers in India now see sunroofs as essential features rather than just a novelty. Automakers responding to this demand are offering both single-pane in lower variants and panoramic sunroof options in higher variants with their models to make them more desirable. These not only elevate a car’s aesthetics but also enhance the cabin ambiance and everybody can have a sunroof, especially those opting for lower variants. Here’s a look at five models sold on our shores that are offered with both sunroof choices.
With the launch of the Nexon CNG, Tata Motors also introduced feature updates to its subcompact SUV. Major highlight included the option to equip the Nexon with a panoramic sunroof. Previously, the Nexon was offered with a single-pane sunroof, which is now available from the lower-end Smart + S trim onwards, while the panoramic sunroof is reserved for the top-spec Fearless + PS variant. Prices for the Nexon range between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Along with its ICE-powered counterpart, Tata also updated the Nexon EV, offering it with a larger battery pack and the option for a panoramic sunroof. However, to get the panoramic sunroof, you must opt for not only the top-spec Empowered + variant but also configure it with the 45 kWh battery pack option. If you choose either the 30 kWh or 40.5 kWh battery options, they come with a single-pane sunroof, available from the Fearless+ S variant onwards. Pricing-wise the Nexon EV with the 45 kWh battery pack starts from Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Empowered + variant costs Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
Before the updates received by the Nexon, the Mahindra XUV 3XO was the only sub-4m SUV in India to be available with a panoramic sunroof. It is also offered with a single-pane sunroof from the MX2 Pro to the AX5 Luxury variant. The panoramic sunroof, however, is reserved for the top-specced AX7 and AX7 Luxury variants. Prices for the single-pane sunroof variants range between Rs 9.24 lakh and Rs 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom), while the panoramic sunroof variants are priced from Rs 12.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The 5-door Mahindra Thar Roxx is next on the list that gets option of both sunroof types. The single-pane sunroof is available with the MX5 and AX5L variants, while the panoramic sunroof is offered only with the AX7L variant. Prices for the former start from Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom), while the latter range between Rs 19 lakh and Rs 22.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Unlike the 3-door model, the Thar Roxx does not come with a convertible rooftop but features a more upscale cabin with an enhanced feature set, including ADAS.
Last but not least on this list is the MG Hector, which offers a panoramic sunroof option in four of its variants—the highest among the cars mentioned in this report. The single-pane sunroof is available only with the one-above base Shine Pro variant, while the panoramic sunroof is offered from the Select Pro variant onwards. The Shine Pro variant is priced between Rs 16.41 lakh and Rs 18.13 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the engine and transmission choice you pick. While the variants with a panoramic sunroof start from Rs 17.73 lakh (ex-showroom).
