Mahindra will reveal a concept pickup truck called Z121 on August 15.
The concept pickup truck is likely to be based on the Scorpio N SUV.
It is likely to be powered by the Scorpio N’s 175PS/400Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine.
We wouldn’t discount an all-electric powertrain as well.
Will be headed to international markets and fingers crossed it comes to India.
This Independence day, Mahindra is going to reveal a new pickup truck concept at its global event in South Africa. The pickup is likely to be based on the Scorpio N that we are familiar with, but there have to be quite a few revisions in order to transform that SUV into a pickup truck.
So here are three things you need to know about Mahindra’s new pickup truck concept, codenamed Z121, ahead of its debut on August 15:

The most obvious change here will of course be the open bed that defines a quintessential pickup truck. But apart from the obvious, real design cues are really hard to dissect, given that the teaser really just gives a dekko at the concept pickup truck.

Given that the Scorpio N already sports an upright stance, the concept also seems to follow on the same lines with rugged elements and cladding. The dark alloys look mean – especially wrapped in those off-road-spec tyres. A glimpse of the rear suggests vertically stacked rectangular shaped taillights with cube-like elements within them, looking evolutionary to what is seen in the Scorpio Getaway.
Overall, expect a very beefy-looking pickup truck with similarities to the Scorpio N.

It’s really too early to talk about what’s powering the pickup. But the standard Mahindra Scorpio N is available with the 175PS/400Nm 2.2-litre diesel engine in South Africa, and we reckon the same engine will power this concept pickup truck as well. This powertrain is available in both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options, both geared using a 6-speed AT. We also wouldn’t discount the possibility of this pickup being an electric offering.

Mahindra will lift the covers off the pickup truck Z121 concept on 15 August, on India’s 77th Independence Day. And even though Mahindra has chosen this prestigious day for the unveiling, details about an India launch are still yet to be known.
