MG Comet EV reaches dealerships as test drives commence
Offline bookings are now open; online bookings will open on May 15.
A total of three variants will be available, full pricing to be out in May.
Introductory prices start from Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom).
With an introductory starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom), the MG Comet EV is the latest, smallest, and most affordable four-seater EV in the country. Units have already started reaching dealerships as the carmaker has commenced test drives for the same. However, there’s a bizarre caveat here, as you won’t officially be able to book one for yourself even if you wish to. The blame goes to MG’s plans of opening the order books on May 15, though select MG dealerships have started taking offline orders.

For now, MG has announced prices of a single variant of Comet EV, which costs Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom). But for those looking for more choice, the carmaker will announce a total of three variants in May. Full pricing for all three trims will be revealed in May as well.

In its top-spec guise, the MG Comet EV isn’t sparse in creature comforts, with equipment like dual 10.25-inch screens comprising digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power windows, steering-mounted audio controls and keyless entry with push button start on offer. The safety suite includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system and reverse parking camera.

But while features and specific exterior elements won’t be common, the 17.3kWh battery pack paired to the 42PS rear-wheel-drive e-motor could be standard throughout the variants. The setup offers a claimed range of 230km. If you can’t test drive the EV yourself for whatever reason, head over to our first drive review which includes all the deets on the mini-EV’s overall experience.
