After a long wait, the Harrier EV is all set to arrive on our shores! But does it pack enough? Let’s find out!

The Harrier EV is Tata’s upcoming electric SUV, all set to be launched on June 3. The Harrier EV will take on the popular XEV 9e, which has proved that there is a significant market for mid-size electric SUVs. The Harrier EV will be positioned above the Curvv EV in Tata’s lineup and will be based on the Acti.ev platform.

Ahead of its launch, here’s what we should expect from the Harrier EV…

Design

In terms of styling, the Harrier EV looks quite similar to the ICE-powered Harrier, as the silhouette of both versions remains identical. However, the Harrier EV features some EV-specific design elements that help differentiate it from its ICE sibling. It sports a closed-off grille that gives it a neater look. Positioned above the grille, you get connected LED DRLs that add to the modern appeal. The bumper looks sharp and aggressive from all angles.

The profile boasts newly designed aero-optimised 5-spoke alloy wheels. You get an EV badge on the front doors that subtly reminds you of what's underneath. The rear looks very similar to the diesel Harrier, featuring connected LED tail lights, a shark fin antenna and a roof-mounted rear spoiler. The tailgate sports ‘Harrier EV’ lettering, while you get a beefed-up bumper and a silver skid plate that adds a hint of ruggedness.

Interior And Features

The cabin looks similar to the standard Harrier, featuring the same dashboard design and layout. However, you get a different colour scheme here that makes things look slightly different. It gets the same chunky four-spoke steering wheel, which houses the illuminated Tata logo. The displays feature EV-specific graphics.

The top features include a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate. It also gets a cool party trick called summon mode. This feature allows the car to be moved forward and backwards using the key.

Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a 360-degree camera, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Level 2 ADAS features.

Powertrain

Powertrain details are still kept under wraps, but we do know that the Harrier EV comes with a dual-motor setup, with one electric motor mounted on either axle. The motors churn out up to 500 Nm of torque. We expect the Harrier EV to offer over 500 km of claimed range.

Price And Rivals

The Tata Harrier EV is expected to be priced at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the likes of the Mahindra XEV 9e and BYD Atto 3.

The Harrier EV with its butch appearance and well-equipped cabin appears to be a compelling option, but we will have to wait for the prices and the powertrain specifications to come out. However, Tata has given us some really popular EVs like the Punch EV and Nexon EV, and we won’t be surprised if the Harrier electric also turns out to be a success.
