Packed with elegance and standout details, the MG Cyberster looks every bit the showstopper. But is it as practical as it is pretty? Let’s find out

MG’s image in India has largely hinged on accessible premium SUVs like the Hector. But with the Cyberster, things might take a turn. Its bold design, from the functional scissor doors to its sweeping roadster profile, captures a striking new statement for MG. But does its dramatic flair fall in line with usability, or is it all show? Let’s break it down.

Road Presence

The Cyberster commands stares and stands out in a way that’s hard to ignore. Its low, wide stance paired with striking details makes people ask what type of car it is. In a market where most EVs lean towards conservative styling, the Cyberster appears refreshingly bold.

And the showstopper in the Cyberster’s design are its scissor doors. They are as much about drama as they are about function. These powered units open and close at the push of a button, rising upward in a theatrical sweep. Built-in sensors ensure they will not clip nearby objects, making them practical too. It’s the kind of feature you will find yourself operating slowly, just to let people watch.

At the front, narrow LED headlamps framed by petal-shaped DRLs give the Cyberster its elegant appearance. A wide grille and sharp bonnet lines add a hint of aggression, without making the design feel cluttered.

Proportions That Scream Roadster

Low to the ground, wide across the wheels, and topped with a flowing roofline, the Cyberster nails the classic two-seater silhouette. The large 20-inch alloys fill the arches perfectly, and the long bonnet-short rear deck combo instantly communicates performance intent. It’s the kind of proportion that enthusiasts will connect to in an instant.

Around the back, the full-width LED light bar stretches across the tail, visually widening the stance. The arrow-shaped tail lamps add a playful, almost concept-car-like touch. It’s a design that draws the eye without relying on oversized spoilers or excessive chrome.

The Cyberster is not a car where style outweighs substance. The doors close with a solid, reassuring thud, and the panel alignment is consistent all around. Even the bonnet and boot feel well-engineered, giving the impression of a car that’s been put together with care.

Well-Executed Soft-Top Roof

The fabric roof tucks away neatly in about 10 seconds, operating quietly even in public spaces. You can drop it at speeds of up to 50kmph, which means you don’t have to pull over if the weather suddenly changes. It folds away without ruining the car’s lines, which is a small but noticeable addition to its design.

What Could Be Better

Tail Lamp Overstyling

The arrow-shaped tail lamps certainly make a statement, but they also break the otherwise clean rear design. On a car where so much else feels balanced, the extra detailing here might not appeal to those who prefer minimalism.

Colour Choices That Polarise

Shades like Flare Red and Nuclear Yellow grab attention instantly, and they fit the Cyberster's character. But the rest of the palette leans more subtle, which might feel underwhelming. Choosing the right colour could be the difference between turning heads and blending into the background.

ZigSays...

The Cyberster raises MG’s design game by several notches. It’s bold, packed with features like its soft-top and scissor doors, exudes standout appeal across the range of unconventional EVs. If you appreciate standout design that’s paired with thoughtful engineering, the Cyberster makes a strong case for itself.

That said, some of its stylistic flourishes, like the tail light and colour choices, might not resonate with those who prefer their sports cars a little less flamboyant.
