After giving us a sneak peek into the interior of its upcoming electric 7-seater SUV, the XEV 9S, Mahindra has now dropped another teaser which confirms a few key features that will be available with the SUV. Let’s take a look at what we know so far:
In the previous teaser, we saw that the XEV 9S will be equipped with a three-screen setup for the digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment and a passenger entertainment screen just like its sibling, the XEV 9e. We also saw that it will get a sliding second row of seats and a gloss black steering wheel with a backlit logo to drive up the premium quotient inside.

However, in addition to these changes, Mahindra has confirmed in the latest round of teasers that the XEV 9S will also receive a Harman Kardon sound system and a power adjustable driver seat with memory settings. It will also share the toggle-like power window switches with the XEV 9e and BE 6. This is besides the panoramic sunroof and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold which was also confirmed previously.

Besides this, the XEV 9S is also expected to include features such as ventilated and massaging front seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charger and a tri-zone climate control. Safety-wise it could include a Level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, electronic stability program, hill hold assist, 360 degree camera and front and rear parking sensors.
The XEV 9S is likely to be powered by the 59kWh and 79kWh battery options from the XEV 9e and BE 6. However, while they only get a single-motor setup, Mahindra could also introduce a more powerful, dual-motor version in the XEV 9S giving it an edge over its siblings. Here are the specifications of both the powertrains in the single-motor avatar:

Mahindra will be launching the XEV 9S, at its ‘Scream Electric’ event scheduled on November 27. We expect the XEV 9S to be priced between Rs 21 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). Being a 7-seater electric SUV, it currently holds no direct competition but it can be considered as an alternative to the the BYD eMAX 7, the Tata Harrier EV and even its coupe-SUV sibling, the Mahindra XEV 9e.

As the launch gets closer, Mahindra’s teasers reveal a lot of interesting details. After the monumental sales success of their other born electric SUVs, the XEV 9S could just be what the brand needs to completely dominate the sub Rs 50 lakh EV segment. All eyes are now on the launch event later this month.
