After dropping the exterior teaser and name reveal of the XEV 9S, Mahindra has now given us a quick glance into the interior of the SUV, which also confirms the presence of a sliding second row, which will go a long way to enhance the comfort of rear passengers. Let’s take a look at what else the carmaker has revealed:
Just as we had confirmed in our reports, the new XEV 9S will be borrowing its dashboard layout from the XEV 9e. This means it will get a tri-screen setup with a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and a passenger entertainment display as well. Besides this, it will also borrow the gloss black centre console and two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo from its siblings, too.

Some notable differences compared to its siblings include new front seats with heavy bolstering and a chrome insert in the middle, a sliding second row and even a third row, making it the first mass-market 7-seater SUV EV in India. Otherwise, we can also see an all-black theme for the interior to differentiate it from the XEV 9e, which carries white upholstery.

In terms of features, Mahindra has also confirmed that the XEV 9S will get a panoramic sunroof and electronic parking brake with auto-hold as part of its equipment list, which is also likely to include ventilated, powered and massaging front seats, wireless charger, ambient lighting, tri-zone climate control and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Surround Sound. Safety-wise, it could include 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Under the bonnet, the XEV 9S is likely to be offered with a choice of 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs from the XEV 9e and BE 6. However, to give it an edge, Mahindra could also launch a more powerful dual-motor setup alongside the single-motor setup used in the XEV and BE twins. Here are the specifications of the XEV 9e’s powertrain setup:

Mahindra is gearing up to launch the XEV 9S at their ‘Scream Electric’ event scheduled on 26-27th November. We expect it to price the XEV 9S in the range of Rs 20-30 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of rivals, it would go up against the Tata Harrier EV, BYD Atto 3 and its own sibling, the XEV 9e.
Electrifying! That is how we will describe the XEV 9S from what we know till now. While a lot of details are still under wraps, we now have a much better idea about what to expect from the XEV 9S.
