Mahindra, in a teaser, has revealed that its next electric product, a 7-seater SUV EV, will be called the XEV 9S. Aside from the name reveal, Mahindra also announced that the design for the same will be fully revealed at their ‘Scream Electric’ event scheduled for 26-27 November. Let’s take a look at what it could be like, based on what we know so far:
According to the leaks that have surfaced so far, we know that the XEV 9S will carry a similar silhouette as the popular XUV700, although with many design changes to set it apart. At the front, it will get a connected light bar with vertically stacked headlamps, much like its sibling, the XEV 9e. Being an EV, there is no need for an air intake, hence the grille is now a faux unit.

Towards the side, we can see flush door handles and aerodynamic alloy wheel covers too, while it still maintains the black cladding and muscular rear fenders from the XUV700.
While the leaks do not point out in detail the rear-end design, it will likely carry a more conventional look and might be offered without a connected light strip, which is offered on the XEV 9e.
Inside, the XEV 9S could get a tri-screen setup with a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and a passenger entertainment screen like on the XEV 9e. It could also borrow the gloss black steering wheel with illuminated logo from the BE 6 and XEV 9e, too.
Otherwise, it could also get different seats, with heavy bolstering and a captain seat option for the second row as well. It will most likely also be offered with a third row, making it a 7-seater.

In terms of the feature set, it is likely to be offered with the tri-12.3-inch screen setup, a 16-speaker sound system with Dolby Atmos, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone chargers, drive modes, powered and ventilated front seats, multi-colour ambient lighting and an air purifier. For rear passenger comfort, it could also get ventilated captain seats for the second row.
In terms of safety, it is expected to offer 6 airbags, a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, electronic stability controls and a host of other features as well.
Underneath, the XEV 9S is likely to get the same battery options as the BE 6 and XEV 9e. This means it could get 59kWh and 79kWh battery packs. However, along with the single motor option offered on the current set of EVs by Mahindra, it could also be the debut model for their dual-motor setup, giving it an edge over some rivals. Here are the specifications of the XEV 9e’s powertrains:

While official details and the launch date remain unconfirmed, we feel that Mahindra could price the XEV 9S in the Rs 20-30 lakh(ex-showroom) range. What we do know, however, is that Mahindra will reveal the design along with some key details at the carmaker’s ‘Scream Electric’ event on 26-27 November. Stay tuned to ZigWheels as we will be covering the event in detail.

In terms of competitions, the XEV 9S will rival cars like the Tata Harrier EV, BYD Atto 3 and its sibling, the XEV 9e. It could also give a fight to the BYD eMAX 7, given that it will be the only 7-seater electric SUV in its price range.
Mahindra has taken us by surprise by naming this the XEV 9S! According to the teaser, Mahindra has also put a focus on space. Could this mean a long wheelbase variant is also in the works? We will only be able to find out for sure on 26-27 November.
