Honda has revealed the near-production concept of its electric 0 Series SUV at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. The SUV showcases Honda's future generation of electric vehicles, all of which will be designed from scratch as dedicated EVs rather than conversions of existing platforms. The 0 Series SUV will spearhead this new family of seven EVs for global markets, and Honda has now officially announced that it will launch in India as a CBU import in 2027.
The 0 Series is a redesign of how Honda intends to produce electric vehicles going forward. The 0 Series is built on a completely new, born-electric architecture specifically designed for efficiency, interior space, and software integration. In contrast to the current generation of Honda EVs, which coexist with internal combustion platforms, the 0 Series was ideated by an EV-first design philosophy, featuring a flat floor, a longer wheelbase, and a larger cabin. This SUV is a refinement of the prototype unveiled at CES 2025.
Nevertheless, the one on display at the Japan Mobility Show is much more representative of the final production design expected worldwide in 2026.
The Honda 0 SUV immediately stands out from the typical EV trend of having aggressive cuts and active surfaces. The styling is simple, minimalist, and utilitarian. The squared-off rear end gives the SUV a unique MPV-like stance, not for dramatic styling but for packaging efficiency. The big glasshouse in the cabin offers great visibility and helps to create an airy, spacious atmosphere.

The exterior features smooth surfacing without unnecessary character lines, a choice Honda states was for better aerodynamic efficiency than pursuing a traditional SUV stance. The most striking visual detail is the U-shaped LED tail lamp encompassing the rear, and the front and rear bumpers possess layered styling, giving the otherwise minimalistic shape depth.

Perhaps the most significant change with the Honda 0 is not mechanical but technological. Honda refers to these EVs as "software-defined vehicles," i.e., the key systems in the vehicle are controlled and updated mainly through software.
The SUV is powered by an all-new operating system named ASIMO OS, short for Honda's legendary humanoid robot project. The system will take care of everything, from driver assistance to battery monitoring and infotainment, and will enable the SUV to add features over the air.

Honda also confirmed that the 0 SUV will be compatible with Level 3 autonomous driving capability in regions where it is permitted.
While we do not have much details about the interior of the 0 Concept, what we see is a modern dashboard with a three-screen setup and a 'yoke' like steering wheel design. Being based on a Born EV platform, the 0 Concept has a flat floor and a very spacious interior in-keeping with Honda's 'Man Maximum, Machine Minimum' philosophy.

While specific details have not been announced, the automaker has said the SUV will be available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Battery packs are likely to range from 80 kWh to 100 kWh, depending on the market and variant.
Honda is also employing its newly developed ultra-thin battery packaging to minimise weight and enhance efficiency, something the company says will enable the SUV to have an estimated real-world operating range of around 500 km on a single charge.

Honda will import it in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), hence pricing will be on the higher side of the EV scale. The strategy is not to sell volumes, but to demonstrate Honda's EV prowess and direction to customers shopping for a high-end electric SUV. In addition to the flagship SUV,
Honda has also confirmed that the smaller Honda 0 Alpha SUV Concept unveiled at the same event will be produced in India and marketed as an affordable electric SUV, most likely competing with the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara, the Mahindra BE6 and the Hyundai Creta Electric.
The Honda 0 SUV Concept is like Honda drawing a line in the sand between its heritage and its electric future. As a CBU, it will not be the most affordable EV to enter India, but that is not its role. It will compete against the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the Kia EV6.
Its job is to establish Honda's new electric persona, create expectations, and indicate that software and efficiency are paramount for the brand going forward. And if the production model retains what we have seen so far, Honda's electric era might have at last found its lead act.
