So, which of these two, the 0 SUV or the 0 Alpha SUV, will replace the Elevate EV?

Honda Elevate

Honda made quite the headlines at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, where it showcased not one but three interesting concept cars – the 0 SUV, the 0 Alpha SUV and the 0 Saloon. While the 0 SUV and 0 Saloon were unveiled at CES 2025, the 0 Alpha is the one that is the most interesting bit. Oh, and Honda also revealed a new concept bike (EV Outlier) and a new compact EV (Super-One)

But did you know that Honda has now cancelled the Elevate EV, which it promised would come to India in 2025 or 2026? What’s it being replaced by? Read on to find out.

India-bound Honda 0 SUV Concept

The production version of the 0 SUV Concept will be coming to India as a completely built unit (CBU) import by 2027. Going this route means that the 0 won’t be cheap and is going to serve as the flagship model for Honda in India. The whole point of the 0 in India will be to become a brand shaper for Honda, fighting with the likes of the Kia EV6, and Tesla Model Y. Not much is known about the 0 SUV, but expect around 80 to 100 kWh battery packs and an estimated real-world range of 500 km on a full charge.

The more interesting bit of the two is the 0 Alpha, which, as you would have read by now, will be built in India and exported worldwide. Of course, this will also be sold in India and indicates that it will be Honda’s first all-electric model in the country. This, in turn, also indicates that the production-spec 0 Alpha will replace the Elevate EV. And when is the 0 Alpha coming to the market? Sometime in 2027.

ZigSays…

Honda is one of those manufacturers in India that doesn’t dare to take a risk (at least in recent years). It played it safe with products like the City (evergreen model for Honda), the Amaze (another safe bet) and the Elevate (which came to the market 5 years too late). Honda, though, has tasted some form of success with these models, enough to keep it afloat and think about bringing new models to India. But this success hasn’t been for too long, as sales have been declining, and Honda desperately needs a commercially strong product in order to survive decently.

The 2027 launch timeline for these two electric models could be a bit of a problem for Honda, since between now and then, many of its competitors will launch a bunch of new models in this space, or even update existing ones to become better. Unless Honda has an ace up its sleeve and some really crazy tech with these two models, it’s going to have a hard time setting sales charts on fire.
