Tata says the electric SUV is being checked for feasibility

  • Tata says the Sierra Electric Concept is not a design study.
  • If launched, it will slot in between the Gravitas and the Harrier.
  • It might also be offered with internal combustion engine options.

The Tata Sierra Concept quite arguably stole the show at Auto Show 2020. It packs all the quirks that we love about the original Sierra. However, being a concept version, the chances of it making it to production were bleak. But from what appears now, there might just be a ray of hope.

Tata has informed that the Sierra concept is not just a design study. In fact, the carmaker is carrying out a feasibility study as of now. If our prayers are answered, the Sierra will slot in between the Gravitas and the Harrier. It will not be a mainstream product, but more of a lifestyle offering along the lines of the upcoming Thar and the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.

From what we know so far, the Sierra might also be offered with ICE engine options if it ever makes it to production. The showcased concept has all the classic elements from the Sierra -- the tall stance, combined with boxy dimensions, and a huge glass area that extends to the roof. This modern interpretation also features slim LED headlamps, tail lamps, and a cabin that is out of this world.

For starters, unlike the original Sierra, the Sierra electric concept features electric sliding door (only on the left side) at the rear like an MPV.  The interior is straight out of the future with swiveling seats at the front. The SUV also sports a couple of displays, which is a norm these days.

It is too early to speculate on the exact timeline and the price of the Sierra. If Tata finds the SUV commercially viable, it will be put into production in the near future. Should be an easy one considering we can't think of anyone who wouldn't want this!
