Q. We want to choose between Interceptor and Himalayan, which is better. Have issue of back pain.
18.4K Views Follow Question Add Answer32 AnswersShibu | 5 years agoI own both the Himalayan and the Interceptor and I can definitely say with authority that with the himalayan you wont have a back pain. Ride is more comfortable due to the seating posture and the seat itself. Same goes for the pillion rider as well. What you will get is a solid freaking headache considering the Himalayan has so many other issues that you get fed up spending most of your time in RE service centers. I own a BS3 model. So I hope the later models have these issues sorted. Interceptor on the hand was built for a different purpose and tall riders (5 foot 9 and above) will have problems with their back. This is because of the seating posture. But there are work arounds to this. its a great bike and is open to customization unlike the Himalayan.
Karthik | 3 years agoI have slipped disc and tail bone/sciatic pains .. you know how bad it can get. But I can tell you, on a normal day the Interceptor has never caused any issues or never till date have I had any issues because of the seating position on the Interceptor. I can't speak for Himalayan, I am sure it's meant for touring and expect that to be equally comfortable or more. With Interceptor, you cant go wrong that much I could tell trust me.
SANJAY MISHRA | 4 years agoThe Interceptor 650 will marginally have a better seating posture than the Himalayan and hence should give less back pain. But eventually it depends on whether you will utilise the motorcycle for city rides for which Interceptor is best or for off roading for which Himalayan is best.Hope this helps! Happy riding!
Anirban | 5 years agoI can vouch for the comfort that Himalayan has to offer since I have taken it to places where most other bikes would just give up. Even on tarmac the soft sprung suspension of the Himalayan is much more comfortable than the Interceptor. However, the thrill that you experience riding the Interceptor is a whole new experience . Take a test ride of both & decide for yourself . Or just wait for a few months as RE should be launching the Himalayan 650 by the end of this year & that would surely be one hell of a machine.
Automotriz | 5 years agoI have Interceptor, when I Test Drove Himalayan, I felt has a better riding posture & comfort, seats are best. Interceptor is for those who love the mean machines for sheer power & pickup above 90Kmph, you will get a great tremendous performance. Interceptor is a highway performer and on some rough roads. I believe Himalayan is a great package as all rounder for that price. Latest BS-4 is of great build quality. If you want a best comfort in a bike and not looking for more speed greater than 90 Kmph smoothly, then Himalayan is great. Interceptor is a blend of power & performance and a heavy weight sports champion. My suggestion is for your height, stature and your body build, you need to take a sincere unbiased test drive of both of these on a longer ride, forget the others reviews on the internet when you do a test drive and buy which suits you well, keeping in mind what exactly you want. That will give you peace of mind.
Mriganka | 5 years agoIf you are having back pain, I would suggest not to go for either of those 2. Purely on the basis of comfort and long rides, Interceptor is the choice. But its very heavy..202KG(Dry weight) and during parking and all it will be stressful on your back. Himalayan however is bit lighter but it is a dedicated off roading machine, so in highways you wont get that power and pick up after you hit the 100 mark
Pranjal | 6 months agoHey guys. I own the interceptor 650 and have been happily riding it since 2+ years with more than 20k on odo. However since the past few months I am feeling acute pain in my tail bone even with the customised touring seat from sahara. Can you suggest a better seat or something which can make my ride comfortable. I see a lot of sensible and experienced riders answering to such queries. Appreciate your response.
3A | 1 year agoBoth have different seat positions. Surely himalayan will offer better riding position. But Int 650 has 6 gears and twin cylinder which can offer more smooth ride. Even Int650 doesn’t cause back pain if the seats are replaced with GT 650 seat. I am a person having disc issues and suffering from back pain using Int 650 for longer distances of 500+
Uppiliappan | 5 years agoHimalayan is a all rounder Off road & Highways it performs well. Suspension set is too good say no to back pain. Interceptor is very good in highways it is the best performer & Powerful bike in royal enfield fleet. It can off road but not like himalayan . Suspension is very good so no back pain issue.

Stupidest answer, the last thing you want to do when you suffer from back pain is ride a motorcycle.
