The facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno’s interior has been spied ahead of its 2022 launch. By the looks of it, the premium hatchback’s interior has been overhauled comprehensively, both in terms of design and features.

The highlight is the new floating touchscreen infotainment system, which could probably be an 8-inch unit. It gets a new user interface and could come with connected car tech. Also, the climate control knobs seem similar to the i20 while the steering wheel has been lifted from the Swift. The revised dials with a coloured multi-info display top up the inside design.

Shifting focus to the features, the hatch could get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, and a wireless phone charger. Features that would be retained include cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, automatic climate control, and LED headlights.

Passengers should be secured by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a parking camera.

The Baleno may continue with the existing 83PS 1.2-litre K12B and 90PS 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engines. The latter gets a mild-hybrid system for improved fuel efficiency. Both come with a 5-speed manual as standard. However, only the K12B petrol engine can be had with an optional CVT.

The facelifted Baleno is expected to go on sale next year at a premium over the current model, priced from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, and the VW Polo
