UK's iconic motorcycle company Triumph launched seven of its models at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi

Triumph Street Triple

One of the most iconic motorcycle marquees in the world, Triumph Motorcycles from UK announced its entry into the Indian two-wheeler space at the 11th Auto Expo held in New Delhi. One of the first British motorcycle companies to enter the Indian market in recent times, Triumph introduced seven models from four of its families consisting of streetbikes, super-sports, adventure and power-cruisers.

With the Indian premium motorcycle segment fast gathering pace Triumph too has entered into the ring and it is determined to crack the code with its competitive pricing. Although the final pricing was not announced, Triumph India Motorcycles Managing Director Ashish Joshi declared approximate prices for all seven models ranging from Rs. 5.5 lakh for the retro-modern Bonneville to the massive 2.3-litre Rocket III power cruiser at Rs. 22 lakh. While some of the top-end models will be imported via the CBU route, the middleweight (600-800cc) models will be assembled in India in order to skip the exorbitant
import duties and hence achieve a more competitive pricing.

The Hinckley-based firm will setup an assembly unit in the country in the first quarter of 2012 and first of its models will go on sale in the Indian market by October this year. Triumph will also establish a complete warehouse for spares and considering the company will be setting up base here, one can expect dedicated service support to the customers. With an exceptional pricing on the Bonneville and Rs. 5.75 lakh for the Street Triple, Triumph has certainly given a knock-out punch to its rivals in the middleweight class of bikes in India. The firm will begin with setting up 3-4 dealerships initially, which will reach a total of about 10-12 dealerships by the year end. Triumph has been able to achieve a competitive pricing for its models only due to its approach to take the CKD route, which is highly essential to get firm grip in the premium motorcycle segment, as has been shown previously by the Kawasaki Ninja 650R.
