The Toyota Fortuner Legender is all set to get a four-wheel drivetrain as early as October 2021. Until now, the premium variant of the full-size SUV was offered only in rear-wheel-drive guise. The upcoming four-wheel-drive variant of the Legender will be the Fortuner’s new flagship variant.

The Fortuner Legender 4X4 will be powered by the familiar 204PS 2.8-litre diesel engine. While this engine is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Legender 4X4, like the 4X2 variant, will be offered only with a 6-speed automatic transmission. If you want a manual four-wheel drive Fortuner, your choice is limited to the standard model.
Also, the SUV will get off-road features like downhill assist control, and front and rear locking differentials.

The main difference between the standard Fortuner and Legender is the design. The latter gets a Lexus-like fascia, a different set of LED headlights and tail lamps, bespoke alloy wheels, and more aggressively styled bumpers.

While the interior design is similar to the standard model, the Fortuner Legender gets a sportier black and maroon theme. Take a closer look at the Fortuner Legender here.

In terms of features, the Fortuner Legender covers all its bases with a touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech (telematics), ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, a wireless phone charger, and automatic climate control. Surprisingly, though, Toyota has skimped on the 11-speaker JBL sound system, both of which are available in the standard variants.

With the introduction of the Fortuner Legender 4X4 AT, the upcoming variant could push the prices of the SUV above the Rs 40 lakh mark. Not only does it put it in contention with the MG Gloster and Mahindra Alturas G4, the Legender will compete with entry-level variants of the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1 in terms of pricing.
