Tata has announced that the Harrier will be launched on 23 January 2019.
It will be Tata’s new flagship SUV.
It is based on the same platform as the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo diesel that also powers the Jeep Compass.
It shares the front suspension and HVAC with the Discovery Sport.

Tata Motors has announced that it will be launching its new flagship SUV, the Harrier on 23 January 2019. The Harrier is underpinned by the same D8 platform that also underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Tata has already announced that it will be priced between Rs 17-21 Lakh on road in India which puts it right in the firing line of the Jeep Compass.

The Harrier is also powered by the same 2.0-litre Multijet diesel that powers the Jeep Compass. The Compass does retain a higher tune of 173PS and 380Nm of torque, whereas the Harrier makes do with 140PS, but same 350Nm of torque. Despite the power deficit, the Harrier is significantly larger than the Compass, but still weighs under 1600kg without fluids. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox which drives the front wheels.

At launch, the Harrier will be offered with a diesel-manual combo only. There is no 4WD on offer as well and it is unlikely that it will be offered in the future either. But despite the lack of 4WD, the Harrier does come with an ESP-based terrain response system that does make the Harrier capable enough to handle the rough stuff. There will be no 4WD but a seven-seater version however is likely be introduced at a later stage.

Abhimanyu | 7 years ago May be some people are shaky about par excellent genetic character and unrivalled looks, comfort, safety,performance and built quality of this beautiful beast but ultimately this is a package at 1/3rd price compared to it's pedigree to which it belongs and this miracle only TATA can do. Anurag | 7 years ago A 4WD version with automatic was expected at launch but this is not happening. This is a bit disappointing as this leaves us with more expensive options like the Skoda Kodiaq, Fortuner and Endeavor. I hope that the 4WD will be offered with automatic transmission as this would make me eager to buy a Tata Harrier 7 seater version. Even if the price is around the 30 Lac mark I think this would be a good option to have as currently all the choices available are in the 35 to 40 Lac range which is really too much for many buyers. Considering Indian road conditions it is necessary for SUV makers to have either 4WD or a differential locking as optional. I have been stuck twice due to open differential and cannot think of buying a new SUV without these functionalities. I hope the engineers at TATA are listening. ...Read More 0 Reply
