Simple Energy has announced it will open pre-bookings of its Simple One electric scooter at Rs 1,947 (a reference to the year India got its independence) on August 15, which is also when it will be launched. Pre-bookings will open on the manufacturer’s official website from 5pm onwards on that day.

Pre-bookings are open PAN-India, and the amount is refundable. Simple Energy says the pre-orders would be given priority delivery when production begins. The startup has already revealed the electric scooter will be priced between Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom), but the final pricing and other details will be announced at the launch event.

The company has also revealed that the 4.8kWh lithium-ion removable battery pack weighs over six kilos and is custom-built for Indian usage. It also gets a large handle up top for ease of mobility. Simple Energy says the battery can be charged using its fast-charging technology called Simple Loop. This allows the battery pack to offer a claimed range of 2.5km per minute of charging. Simple Energy will be establishing 300 fast-charging stations across the country in the coming months.

The company claims the electric scooter can cover 240km in Eco mode. Such an incredible range is likely achieved at very low cruising speeds. The battery pack is linked to a mid-drive motor and is capable of offering a 0-50kmph acceleration in 3.6 seconds and a claimed top speed of 100kmph.

The electric scooter also gets a generous 30-litre underseat storage, 8 litres more than the Ather 450X. Other noteworthy features include all-LED lighting and a touchscreen with onboard navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. Its primary rival will be the Ather 450X, but Simple Energy’s launch coincides with that of the Ola Electric Scooter, which is also set to be competitively priced. Other alternatives include the Bajaj Chetak and the TVS iQube Electric. Let us know which one you would go for in the comments.
